Penacova is a small town, 22km northeast of Coimbra, set high above the river Mondego with stunning views of the valley.

Casa Branca train station is a cross point where trains arriving from the north and the south meet, taking passengers to Йvora.

Beja, town (1991 pop. 20,005), S Portugal, capital of Beja dist. and Baixo Alentejo. It is an important regional trade center with copper, silver, lead, and zinc mining nearby. Beja was important under the Romans, who called it Pax Julia. The Moors used it as a fortress city, until the Portuguese recovered it in 1162.

This ancient city gave its name to both Port wine and to the nation of Portugal. Much of its heritage is based on shipping and trade, making it a bustling and passionate city. Porto is also classified as world heritage site. It is Portugal’s second largest city.
Porto beckons with its fantastic architecture where visitors can see examples of Gothic, Baroque, Neoclassical, Renaissance and Roman design in this scenic city built right into granite cliffs at the mouth of the river.

Espinho region has archaeological vestiges stating that once an hill fort existed in the area, named “Castro de Orvil”, relating this region to ancient human occupation.In the 19th century, Espinho transformed itself into a tourist destination, in a period when people were strongly advised to bathe in the sea because of its healing properties,
and also because of the development provided by the construction of the railway, in 1870.

Mira is a pretty village set around a lagoon and has the most facilities for that stretch of coastline. The village is full of restaurants and cafes in the summer and looks set to become an aquaculture centre for sea bass.
To go to Praia de Mira you pass through hectares of forest at the end of which are picnic benches in the leafy shade. Carry on into the town and you'll go past the lagoon and find the beach on the west of the town centre.

The Cultural landscape of Sintra, as the site is officially known, dates from the 19th century. Ferdinand II then turned a ruined monastery into castle, with parks, gardens and villas around it. The Uneso Committee decided to inscribe Sintra because: "... the site is of outstanding universal value as it represents a pioneering approach to Romantic landscaping which had an outstanding influence on develoments elsewhere in Europe."
