- Born and raised in Hong Kong, and thereafter having lived in the United Kingdom for six years, I now reside in the USA. I've been lucky to travel a lot during my lifetime, vacationing around the world thanks to a father who was in the airline industry.
I sometimes feel I'm the perpetual foreigner - always moving around the world, and everywhere identified as "not from here" thanks to my unusual accent. Hence, my username on this site, from the Cantonese word Gweilo or Gwailo (g-why-low), which can be loosely translated as "foreigner".
The four eights were added when I found my username already taken on another site; four eights are traditionally a lucky combination to the Cantonese, the ethnic group that makes up the majority of Hong Kong'ers. (The Cantonese for eight is 'baat', which sounds like 'faat' - the word for 'prosperity'). - Member Since
