Photographer's Note
To address the first question many will wonder about, no, this photo was not manipulated.
I adjusted the contrast some and sharpening of the edges, that is all.
They are THE MOST unusual cloud formations I have personally ever seen. I love the layers upon wider layers progressing upward.
This is the same cloud formation as my previous posting entitled Clouds Illusions, only this picture was taken several seconds before the other one. There was no delayed exposure on this or the previous photo. This is exactly what I saw and photographed on 3-17.
I enjoyed the comments that several of you made regarding what the cloud looked like. As you can see, several seconds (before or after) can make a huge difference in the appearance of a cloud formation.
I hope you find pleasure in it as I do.
God's best to you! Tim
Photo taken in my back yard (3-17-04) in the Yakima Valley Washington State USA.

It looks like a huge fluffy magic lantern. The colors are really nice as is the lighting. I like the symmetry of the field rows below.

Tim, are you sure these are clouds? Looks like a UFO to me :-). Perhaps the originator of those crop circles ... looks like this one is descending upon the field to wreak havoc. Quite eerie ... and even made more eerie by the saturated colors. Wonderful capture and composition. It always pays to have the camera with you all the time!

Fantastic clouds with beautiful graduated grey tones between the overall blue of the sky. It gives some relief that increases the subject. The landscape is also very nice with its natural tones. Very nice shot.

The colour and texture are superb in this picture the golden colour of the grape vines? and the blue of the sky, and the echo of it on the horizon. there is obviously a very high speed wind moving these clouds.

Wow, I've never seen anything like it. Not much to say about the photo I guess, I like that you have a tree and some fields in the picture.

Another very nice cloud shot. Must have been a very interesting day for cloud watching. This one has a classic UFO look to it. Three levels and on the skewed angle. It's very nicely photographed, also. Beautiful colors and nice and sharp. Very nicely done.

Awesome! I wish I had a view like that from my backyard. When I see photos like this, I long to be back in Washington. I have a backyard picture from when I lived in Vancouver that I haven't digitized yet. It is of Mt. St. Helens when it erupted.
Very nice Tim!

Tim, these clouds are so unbelievable!
Colors are well balanced by the presence of big blue sky and orange-brown color of the ground, nice shot. You captured a magic moment. Thanks to you to share it on TE! ;-)

Profoundly beautiful. The smoothness of those clouds sweeping across the sky is magnificent and will not happen exactly like that ever again. Well done.

Great shot, Tim. I just found your photos and this is really exciting picture. I must agree with others that clouds remind me UFO. It looks that we all think the same way. :-) I also like the color constrast of sky and brown field.

Hie Tim, the other day there was this cabled series on Crop Circle. Probably this is the cloud formation that could create that phenomenon. Just dropping by Tim. Has been a long while since hearing from you. Miss your posting too. Guess you are tight up with your deck still. New "toy" huh. God's care Tim.

Wow! Fantastic Ufo´s clouds. Maybe a SRL 35mm with circular polarizer filter improve final results.

First I wrote "how did you get them ? they look like a UFO !!!" but noow I'd add : the very composition, colors & framing of yr photo match together well : specially the brown earth is great in contrast with the blue sky !

Hi Tim,
Outstanding capture. Nice to see how nature's randomness sometimes taking a more organised line.
Well done,

Man, this sure looks strange, I understand that you needed to state that it isn't manipulated. Very well captured, perhaps a crop without the tree on the left would be even more striking.

Hi Tim,
This is a wonderful picture of very unusual clouds.
I have never seen that before and I am glad that you let me see and understand these "lenticular clouds".
There is a wonderful and warm light in your landscape and the red of the ground is nicely contrasting with the blue of the sky.
Congratulations !
Amicalement,
Michaël

Very unusual cloud indeed. It's still difficult to imagine everything what the nature can make. I like the composition of the picture and the lovely (still) winter colours.

Amazing cloud formation Tim! It's all about capturing the moment and you did it here.
I shot a cloud formation a while back that I thought was kinda funny: http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Ireland/photo230453.htm

Hey Tim,
hmm gr8 capture,
what timing of right place at the right time...
the saturation looks nice, although the framing should have included a bit more of the orange land below.
Superb shot never the less :)
Cheers TFS,
