Please view the TE Beta version for much better clarity BLUE HOUR XMAS.
Well, its that time of year again. Blue Hour time haha.
I've been waiting for the right moment to capture the blue hour light downtown, and finally the rain has stopped - so tonight was the night.
And yes, in case you're wondering, we don't get snow here in Vancouver. For some reason I feel the need to always report this as most of the world thinks all of Canada experiences terrible winters - that's simply not true. It rains 5-6 days a week in our winters, and when its not raining its sunny or overcast. We only get a snow fall on average about 2 days a winter season, and its melted away the next day or so anyways.
Here you can see the tall Xmas tree and our Vancouver Art Gallery, which Lars and Rob visited. Two years ago there used to be a large circular water fountain where the tree stands, but for some reason the city wanted the space open. I guess its good in some ways bc events and moments like this can now be experienced here. Its all good.
Anyways, I hope you like the shot, I have many more, perhaps I'll post another one before the 25th.
Incase you're wondering, the reason all the chairs are empty is because people are too busy walking around snapping photos of the tree and taking selfies.

Hello Craig, we used to have white Christmases but now in Warsaw is like in Vancouver - it often rains and we have snow maybe two or three days in a year. And I prefer this as I must remove the snow from the 40 m of pavement.
Nice blue hour picture, attractive with the chairs. Beautiful Christmas tree. For you, it is the very special Christmas, the first in your family. Have a great time!
Merry Christmas

Hello Craig,
I was afraid the tree was about to collapse, but I realized it's because of your lens. ;-) It's a nice view and a fine blue hour light, but the red (orange?) chairs and tables make as much impression as the tree.
Merry Christmas to all of you.

Hello Craig,
A well-known place in Vancouver with the Art Gallery in the background, but of course I have never seen it myself with a Christmas tree. Excellent composition, clarity and sharpness. The blue hour sky makes a great background. The many red chairs are also a great detail.

Hi Craig.Your notes about the weather are very interesting, in fact abroad many like me think that the Vancouver winter is freezing and snowy. The photo is beautiful, original view on the carpet of empty tables and chairs under a sober and elegant tree, without hallucinating Las Vegas-style decorations, I like it very much.Merry Christmas to you and the enlarged family with its first Christmas in 3 ! Hi Craig,
The wideness of the square is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the Christmas tree and of the buildings. The blue hour light has a special effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

A very nice Christmas tree, we have Christmas without snow and I think the Christmas tree is the only one attraction in the future :(
I wish you a nice Christmas atmosphere with your family

Ciao Craig
anche qui piove quasi ininterrottamente e i giorni luminosi sono pochi.
Bella immagine natalizia, il primo Natale da marito e padre, due cose molto importanti.
Tanti auguri a te e alla tua famiglia.

Hello Craig,
Great photo! The tree is beautiful, and the blue hour sky also looks pretty as always. It is a bit odd that every single chair is empty, and there isn't a huge crowd by the tree either. Those glowing snowflakes on the tree are funky, too. :-) Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

Hi Craig
Beautiful blue hour photo and the large Christmas tree is certainly the main hero. I like how you filled the foreground with the chairs (fun to read about why they are all empty...).
Ok, so it's normal for you to have no snow, but... what about Poland? I was just telling Gert that we haven't had a White Christmas since 2014! And today it's raining in Poland AND in Sweden. Global warming? Or global wetting??
Best wishes
Kasia

The dark surrounding gave emphsis to the illu minated tree, Craig.
Blue winter hour par-excellence, distinct details even under very low light condition.
Happy holidays,

That is a very beautiful tree. Your night camera work is perfect. Rich in detail as the sun sets and the light dominate the scene. I liked very much living in Vancouver - right downtown at the Lions with a view of the park and waterfront. A great city. Everything I needed was near.
Hope you are blessed with love and kindness this Christmas and enjoy a happy passing from this year to the next. Take Care

Craig, beautiful Christmas tree illuminated near the Art gallery. The picture immerses us in the Christmas atmosphere. The public is indeed busy taking pictures and selfies near the tree. Fine colors, good sharpness, merry Christmas.

Hello Craig,
If you would prefer snow to rain, Calgary and Edmondton would be the places to live. But I couldn't stand the -50c temperatures in the dead of winter. Even -25c was too much for me. Vancouver winters are more tolerable. Good sharpness and the red tables and chairs contrast well with the blue hour sky. A merry Xmas to you and you new family!
