Photographer's Note

Amelia, is a city of ancient origins: it was certainly among the first Italic centers. According to the tradition attested to in the work of the scholar Cato the Elder, Ameria, as it was called in Roman times, was founded by the eponymous Amiro in the year 1134 BC, 963 years before the Roman war against the king of Macedonia, Perseus . Testimony of this age are the monumental polygonal walls (V-IV century BC), that surround most of the town, together with those Roman and medieval, for about 2 km.
border town, before umbra then Roman, Amelia has many reminders of its past: the town walls, which is the most important monument, we mention the interesting old town, which stretches for about 25 ha, with its layers, the numerous Renaissance palaces, churches, remains of mosaics and hot baths.

Attractive panorama view with the church at the top of the hill, surrounded by the old city. The dark background gives the image the atmosphere of an old 16th century painting.

Hello Silvio, I like the way that the white faced buildings have caught the light, so that they stand out from the darker surroundings.

Ciao caro Silvio,

Ah! I remember Amelia so well - it is a beautiful little city and this is a splendid panoramic view with lovely winter light taken on the last day of the year.

I suspect your photograph was taken from around the same viewpoint from which I captured this picture in the summer of 2011 - I seem to remember I took it from south of the city on the road to Giove.

But the play of the winter sunshine on the city in your photograph is superb, lighting up the buildings brilliantly against their dark surroundings. Perfect exposure and superb sharpness too.

these always get my attention. I know the photo isn't 100% sharp, or perhaps its bc of the TE website, but that doesn't matter, it still looks so photogenic and charming. its great how the town neatly fits into your frame, and there are pops of colour in some places to give it extra kick. nice shot

another treasure of Italy, not so well known. marvelous view of the hill and the many medieval buildings I liked the light and the contrast with the dark background.
