San Francisco

This is a view of the magnificent city of San Francisco, seen from Coit Tower. The most prominent buildings that can be disovered here are the Transamerica Pyramid, the tallest skyscraper in SF (853ft/260m) and 555 California Street (formerly Bank of America Center), the darker tower to the right of the Pyramid. Both are located in the Financial District of SF.
On the left hand side you can see just one of the four towers of the west span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, opened in 1936, six months before that other famous SF bridge. The little tower just in front of the bridge is part of the San Francisco Ferry Building, located on The Embarcadero, the terminal for ferries travelling across San Francisco Bay.

Coit Tower is a 210ft (64m) tall tower built in 1933. On top of Telegraph Hill (275ft/84m), it offers a great view of the city and the surrounding Bay Area.

Dag Lars,
Indrukwekkend overzicht van de skyline van SF achter de residentiele wijken. Je ziet ook dat het nog een overzichtelijke stad is van een mooi formaat.
Mooi van kleur en leuk dat de brug en het water er ook op staan.

Hallo Lars,
Een prachtig helder en scherp beeld van de skyline van San Francisco met een goede nota over bepaalde gekende gebouwen.
Mooi vind ik hoe de wolkenkrabbers plots oprijzen achter het stadsdeel op de voorgrond dat toch uit niet echt kleine gebouwen bestaat.
Het zicht op de brug en het water links maakt het geheel nog prachtiger.

Dat belooft dus af en toe een stevige "voordefoutengraswegmaai"-westrijd te worden. Maar tussen de duizende moderne kiekjes zijn er altijd wel een paar die net even wat afwijken.
Mooi werk met de "lage" voorgrond en de "hoge"achtergrond en de "baai/brug" aan de zijkant.

Dag Lars,

De foto van mij is ook een panorama van een mini stadje, maar deze foto is wel duidelijk van een grotere omvang.
San Francisco is natuurlijk een "big city with a lot sky scrapers"
Het valt op dat we de stad in drie delen moet opsplitsen, allen al door de kleur van de wijken
Heel mooi samengesteld met de brug in de achtergrond.
Prachtig foto werk Lars.

a very attractive presentation of such an interesting cityscape, a city with a unique character. I like very much the elevated point of view and the perspective that's allowed you to include two stunningly different aspects of the city, as well as the sea and the iconic bridge. You achieved marvelous definition on details and colours. The other day I was reading an article about the changes the city is going through due to the establishment or transfer of super companies there. Your picture would make a great illustration. Hello Lars,

With a city as big as this and from a tower that it is impossible to move, you have done a remarkable job of creating a very interesting composition. The low rise buildings make a fine prelude to the high rise buildings, revealing the diversity of the city.
I am glad that you have shown us the bridge, since this reveals the city's relationship with the sea.
The details have been sharply captured so that we, who are unfamiliar with the city, can gain a clear impression.

Is the city, visible beyond the bridge, still part of SF or is it another city?

Hi Lars, Funny story about dad and son :). But the result of it is gorgeous, what a view! I like the vie of Tallinn, was charming, but this is specatcular. Isn't it great that now it is possible to upload this big format? Superb shot.

The distance to the bridge is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings of downtown San Francisco. The good luminosity is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Lars,

This makes me incredibly jealous, it's the one thing I didn't have time to experience...and now I can clearly see I should have made a stronger effort to make it here! A great city from ground level, and quite the impressive skyline and view from this vantage point. So many neat details to look over, and a smoothly exposed picture to make them out, as we get a good section of the urban sprawl to admire. Clear, crisp and well framed. Enjoy the weekend. A truly impressive overview over the city of San Francisco with its iconic skyline. What impresses me every time is the sudden change of small dwellings to the skyscrapers from one street to the next.
Good light and a pleasant sky brings this composition nicely together.

i'm a HUGE fan of city skylines.
I could post dozens and dozens in a row but every TE member would get bored after a while :)

glad you posted this one, its fantastic.

When I visited SF a few years ago our view up Coit Tower wasn't the best because of the lighting...but you have yourself a 10 out of 10 type of situation here!

Its perfect!
love the clouds, love the depth, love the buildings and and overall sharpness/contrast.

Found one beautiful spot, high above the town skyline, Lars.
The visibility on that day was superior, each house and building exceptioanlly in fine clarity, and the unique tower in triangle shape stand prominent among the other skyscrapers.
most impressive view of a city i spent two days only back in 7/1978.
