Photographer's Note

This is dedicated to my street-shooting friends here at TE -- a skill that I still lack the temerity to practice! Kristin, how do you do it? I could only manage this one because the subject was a small child AND I was "hiding behind" (sort of, as I was clearly climbing on) a statue!

The statue is "El Viejo y el Mar?" (The Old Man and the Sea? -- and yes, I believe the artist intended to include the question mark in the title) by Guillermo Gmez Macias. I've included a "catalog shot" as a WS here so you can see the entire piece. At first appearance, he is a rather silly-looking old man!

But there is a poem on the brass plate -- perhaps he is not so silly after all!

Here is my best attempt at translation...

The old man and the sea?

I have a paper boat...
It is made of a page
on which I have written my dreams.
It has no anchors or mooring ties.
I want to wander on it,
from the seven seas, on to the eighth,
where I know, I will land in the desired port.
...has anyone seen the light of its lighthouse shining?

Best regards, everyone!
