Market day at Sapa, a photo from Lao Cai, North East

Photographer's Note

Market day is Sapa isn't just about the markets - it is a day when may M'Hong people from surrounding districts come to town, always in traditional dress. The older women are very much into the markets - both buying and selling but for the younger women it is a chance to socialise and meet portential husbands.

great shot from Sapa. It is a pity I had not time to go there. I am sure I would be delighted. Charming smile of the girl, maybe she saw already someone? So many lovely details here - the dresses, the original bags. wonderful.

What I like about his one, is that the frame is almost filled up to the top with women and girls and their typical Hmong textiles. The playful duo up front adds some essential dynamism/interaction to the scene. The two hands bottom right corner are great details.

Hi Ian,
Great friendly, lively and colourful image. I like the huddle of ladies on the top half of the frame and the more casual layout in the foreground. Nice to see their traditional dress and adornments.

Hello Ian,
Well, it is wonderful shot of daily life from Vietnam. It is almost like a group portrait women in beautiful dresses. They have good time buying and selling to see on their faces full of smiles. Great shot colors, light and sharpness.
