Winter landscape near Solec Kujawski in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship (also `Kujawy-Pomerania Province`).
Kuyavia, known in Polish as `Kujawy` [kuˈjavɨ], is a historical and ethnographic region in the center of Poland in the Greater Poland Lakes area. Kuyavia is situated in the basin in the middle of the Vistula River and upper Noteć River, with its capital in Włocławek.

In the north Kuyavia borders with Gdańsk Pomerania, in the west with Greater Poland, and in the east with Mazovia. The borders of Kuyavia stretch out on the left bank of Vistula River: from the mouth of Skrwa River in the south, to the mouth of Wda River on the north. The borders of Kuyavia spread out to the west from Koronowo and Nakło, to Noteć, they turn west from the river, cross the Trląg Lake, and onto the Strzelneński Forests. They reach Skulski Lake and the upper Noteć River. They also include Brdowski Lake, Chodecz and Lubień Kujawski and go through the Skrwa River and finally end at the Vistula River. Some ethnographers and historians admit that Dobrzyń Land and Kulmerland are parts of the Kuyavia region.

Now, they are part of Kuyavia-Pomerania province (excluding some parts) and the northern outskirts of Koło County in Greater Poland province. In Kuyavia there are black soils (also called black land, Polish: czarnoziem), one of the best soils in Poland. Thanks to the fertile soils, Kuyavia is called the granary of Poland.
