Photographer's Note

The ancient Hindu Vedas & Upanishads have always spoken of the immense power of women as the savior of the world. Durga puja, the greatest festival of Bengal, is all about worshiping this Devi after she saved us from the evil hands of invincible Mahisashura. She is portrayed as a mother. We all bestow our safety in thy hands. The banana tree is also worshiped by Hindus as a mother. She is the wife of Ganesha, the younger son of devi Durga.

This picture symbolizes the triumph of woman power in this male dominated country.... A tribute to The Mother !

Taken at the Shobhabazar Palace, Kolkata on the eve of Ashtami (26th Sept, 2009)
