The Archiepiscopal Palace of Lima, capital of Peru, is the residence of the Archbishop of Lima and administrative seat of the Diocese of Lima. It is located in Plaza Mayor, in the Historic Center of Lima, which is World Heritage by UNESCO declaration.
It was built in the place that Pizarro established for the residence of the priest of the city, but the building is a modern work, having been started in 1922, with a 1916 project by Ricardo de Jaxa Malachowski, in a neocolonial style that became a vogue in Peru until the years 40. Claudio Sahut, second in the contest that chose the project, also collaborated with suggestions, especially for the faade.
The design was inspired by the Torre de Tagle Palace, however, adapting the patio as a vestibule with a monumental staircase, but maintaining other features in the Mudejar style. On the faade are the large frontispieces on the central door and the sides, which continue from the first floor to the top of the building, and the wooden shutters of the second floor, typical of the Hispanic-Moorish constructions.
