Basilica of Caacupй, a photo from Cordillera, South

Photographer's Note

It is said that Caacupй is the Spiritual Capital of Paraguay, because of the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Caacupй, a Catholic Basilica inaugurated on December 8th of 1765, which has become a pilgrimage place to thousands of believers.

The name Caacupй comes from the guarani word "ka'a kupй", which means "behind the herb". The legend says that a guarani sculptor, converted into Christianity by the jesuitic missionaries, was coming back from the jungle with a very good piece of wood when he met some Indians of a very dangerous tribe, the Mbayas. He then promised to the Virgin that, if he could escape, he would sculpt an image of her and would venerate it. It was then that the Virgin herself appeared and shouted to him: "ka'aguэ cupe-pe", which means "go behind the bushes of yerba mate", where he hid and could be saved.

Hello Alexandre,
This is a well balanced shot. The walkway leads the eye into the shot perfectly. The overhanging trees frame the shot nicely. The lighting is good and the photo has fine sharpness.

Hello Alexandre,
A fine symmetrical composition with the railings used to funnel the viewer's attention toward the Basilica. The overhanging branches are well included, contributing to the symmetry. The image is very pleasantly lit and has good colours and clarity.

What a wonderfully interesting note you have written and what a lovely pair of photographs you have shown us to illustrate it!

The symmterical composition of your main photograph is excellent and I like the framing from the overhanging foliage on either side. The wide paved pathway leads us perfectly to the entrance of this lovely basilica.

Beautiful light and colours, perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness. And, of course, your workshop photograph explains it all with that lovely image of the fine window.

The paved path leading the way to the white basilica, is an attractive element on your compo.
Yet, managed a whole view of the edifice, from its shaded side and handles the backlight superbly.

Hi Alexandre,
A brilliant shot in all its glory, well taken and processed with loads of detail giving a lovely clean and crisp finish to this super image.
I think you have brought out the best in the architecture perfectly aligned verticals really bring out the character within the frame.
White colour of the church absolutely sings out and the whole of the edifice stands out from the blue sky and bit of side warm light gives a subtle touch.
A fine architectural shot worthy of an effort.

although the church building is not very elegant, in my opinion, your picture and the way you handled your theme are very interesting. I like how you placed the church in the upper part of the vertical frame, you opted for a symmetrical composition and used the colours for this purpose too. Although the faзade is in the shade, it's perfectly clear and set off by the bright colours that frame it. Congratulations and thank you!
