Oil Rig, a photo from Parana, South

Photographer's Note

I would like to dedicate this picture to my friend Antфnio ribeiroantonio who is a petroleum geologist and use to work offshore in this kind of platforms. Com um grande abraзo, Antфnio!

Sometimes we use to go to this oil rig just for fishing. It is working around 110 miles (200km) far from our state's coast, straight ahead to the Africa direction!
We can have some of the best fishing there. Huuuuge fishes use to live there, or just to pass by. Wahoos, marlins, dorados, tunas, and many others. Since it is so far from home, we spent the night there, and beside the fishes, this image is something extra that I've caught.
The Brasilian petroleum company, Petrobrбs, is already producing 100% of all petroleum the country needs. Most of our petroleum is in the ocean, like this platform shows.

Hi Jose. This is an interesting photo, because the subject (the platform) isn't the prettiest possible, but the result is great. A wide view in this case is a good idea, and the state of sky in that time was perfect, good light and great colors. Good job.

Very nice image of this offshore oil rig. The colours of the sunset look great as a background with the small clouds filling the sky nicely. Good sharpness and colou saturation. I imagine is quite an experience to work in a place like this one. Thanks Zeca.

Thanks Josй for remembering me on this occasion. I was not expecting such nice thing. Your photo is very good in composition and colour and if it was not for the tilted horizon which makes the platform to lean to the right, it would be perfect. The colours of the sunset are really superb and i like the little lights on the platform too, as well as the flare.
I can see it is a semi-submersivel but to be there for a quite long time is also a production platform because of the flare being lit.
How close they let you get to? When you say you spend the night I believe you are saying you spend the night in your boat, correct?
I am going on Saturday to one of those things in offshore Western Australia, for a job which should last up to 12 days.

Stunning this photo as if the fire which escapes from the platform forms the lights of the sun which come to die on the sea...

I never though one of these things would make a pretty photograph, great timing, I sometimes complain about generous empty skies, but in this case it works because of the changing colors.

o Antonio tme razao, o horizonte esta deitado para direita. Passa o scroll ate a topo da imagem desapareca na parte superior do seu monitor e voce vera que esta com tilt. Que aventura hein, cara. 200km da costa? Eu nunca faria algo assim. Eu tenho um respeito enorme pelo mar e quase chega a ser medo.
Pensando em comprar uma nova lente? Lente 24-70? Se quiser agente faz a encomenda la com o B&H e manda para o meu endereco aqui e eu levo para o nosso encontro em San Francisco ou no Yosemite. Eu acabo em comprar uma nova lente tambem. A minha velha 18-55 quebrou e eu encomendei a 17-35mm f/2.8. Ta pra chegar proxima segunda ...

composiзгo excelente com cores maravilhosas. Uma possнvel explicaзгo para a "inclinaзгo" da foto (jб que vocк corrigiu o horizonte): trata-se de uma plataforma semi sub e, no momento de sua foto, ela estava ligeiramente adernada para o bordo do flare aceso. Esta й uma condiзгo normal durante as operaзхes de manutenзгo da estabilidade, voltando-se em seguida para o nivelamento da plataforma, atravйs de lastro e deslastro dos tanques. Uma pequena correзгo: temos petrуleo tambйm em campos terrestres (em menor quantidade) e jб atingimos a autosuficiкncia.

Years ago while sailing out on a cruise from New Orleans toward the Caribbean, I saw such an image, but was unable to retrieve my camera from my stateroom in time to capture it. I was always disappointed by missing that site. Thanks to you, I've now seen an even better image of a deep sea oil rig. Excellent composition, colors and resolution.

Wow, this is a great sunrise! Detail in the shadows with the gas flare providing a highlight. But, the sunrise is one of the nicest I have seen in a long time. Bravo - well done!

um belo flagrante da plataforma esse, as cores do cйu ficaram maravilhosas. Talvez ficaria interessante se colocasse a chama justamente no ponto mais claro do cйu, mas sу vendo mesmo pra saber se era possнvel ou o resultado satisfatуrio.
