Blue-and-White Swallow, a photo from Minas Gerais, Southeast

Photographer's Note

The Sanctuary of Caraзa, in the midst of nature, is also a paradise for bird watchers. I decided to photograph these blue-and-white swallows (Pygochelidon cyanoleuca) with a shorter focal length to include the church tower shown in the last photo. They are also very difficult birds to approach when standing still; and when in flight, they make a real show with their acrobatics while hunting insects.

Hello Alexandre,
You managed something rather difficult: to make electric wires essential parts of a composition. And even though these birds are further away than in most of your photos, they are just as dominant in the photo. The out-of-focus church tower provides a very good background, refreshingly different from the usual blurred branches.

A great photo of these three small birds sitting on the wires. Very well and clearly captured. The blurry church tower makes an excellent backdrop and is also very nicely lit from the side.

This shot is something I would have had rarely thought of. Wires in front of another "more important" subject are usually an inconvenience, an obstacle, something to avoid, something you wish to vanish with some magic trick. And yet, you managed to make the wires and their occupants the protagonists of a very interesting scene. Lesson for any aspiring photographer (like me): Learn actually see beyond the expected frame. Well done!

Shallow exposre setting makes so ideal and tatsy contarst of the rear and the front as such, nice shot!

Focal was upon the birds on the wires, as the tower appears blurred - it happens often when I take birds pictures - we can't tell the birds where to pose for us...

Ola Alexandre I would point out that these swallows got early in situ to take the best seats for the carillon concert!!
Congratulations for that focusing at wide aperture, leaving the limelight to the birds and giving a sense of artistry.

Alexandre, the blue and white swallows are perched on the electric wires. They select this elevated point to see and catch insects flying. The church tower is well included in the bg. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.
