Photographer's Note

The Historic Centre (known in Portuguese as The Pelourinho) is a historic neighborhood located in the western zone of Salvador, Bahia. It was the city's center during the Portuguese Colonial Period, and was named for the whipping post (Pelourinho means Pillory) in its central plaza where African slaves received punishment for various infractions, as well as for disciplinary purposes.
The Historic Centre of Salvador da Bahia, frequently called the Pelourinho, is extremely rich in historical monuments dating from the 17th through the 19th centuries. Salvador was the first colonial capital of Brazil and the city is one of the oldest in the New World (founded in 1549 by Portuguese settlers). It was also the first slave market on the continent, with slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations.
Nicknamed "Pelф" by residents, this area is in the older part of the upper city, or Cidade Alta, of Salvador. It ecompasses several blocks around the triangular Largo, and it is the location for music, dining and nightlife. In the 1990s, a major restoration effort resulted in making the area a highly desirable tourist attraction.
Pelourinho has a place on the national historic register and was named a world cultural center by UNESCO in 1985. Easily walkable, Pelo has something to see along every street, including churches, cafes, restaurants, shops and the pastel-hued buildings. Police patrol the area to ensure safety.

yes, the effort of restoring these buildings in the 90's was fantastic and saved many areas of the old town, anyway, there are many others without a chance.
nice view showing the street and the colors of its faзades. in my opinion Salvador is one of the towns someone should to know if he wants to understand Brazil.

Good use of diminishing linear perspective and vanishing point in this colorful street scene, with excellent sharpness. The red sign at right and the pink facade of the building at the vanishing point contrast well against the blue hues at left. The solitary woman animates the scene. A pleasant diffused light. Tfs!

Now I am somewhere between Salta and Buenos Aires, in the bus - 1300 km way. I had many flights in this trip, so I wanted something diffeent.

I have been away for a couple of days so missed this.
I'm glad I browsed your gallery for it would have been a pity to have missed this contribution.
It is classical in its fine composition, using converging lines to great effect, completing the view with a focal building.
The soft pastel colours add to the impression, whilst the figure gives scale and removes any sense of sterility.

Deve essere un piacere entrare queste strade piene di colore, sicuramente pieni di vita, anche se a questo punto sembrano deserta !!

Il modo in cui hai fatto l'immagine dа una buona idea di profonditа e spazio , tra cui questa persona dа una buona idea delle dimensioni, fissarlo con un bel cielo blu, e forse in un altro momento, essere una strada piena di vita. ..e piщ colore !!!

p.s. You are right, the airport duty free shops are quite expensive (except Whisky, Brandy, .....) today.
But they are beautiful part of each airport. I cannot imagine airport transit area without these shops (window shopping may be more interesting than shopping..is it true??)

Luciano, Pelourinho is an open air museum located in Salvador de Bahia historical center. The houses and the streets are several centuries years old. The colors selected to paint the facades are really attractive. I like the wrought iron balconies. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Lovely streen with eye catching pastel colors. It is interesting that we admire the towns which decide to use one color for all houses but actually it is even more interesting to see multiple colors as long as they are fresh and bright.
