Photographer's Note

Vassouras is located in what later was appointed Paraba Valley. This region became known as New Path and Proenca path as did the connection between Minas Gerais during the period of its Golden Cycle and the [[Port of Rio de Janeiro, serving for the marketing of this production for the Portuguese Empire. Due to this economic importance of connection, the Portuguese Crown issued a Royal Decree protecting this [7] area, in order to monitor and prevent the smuggling of gold and consequently leaving there is no settlement in place until the end of the eighteenth century and early nineteenth century.
