Tango, a photo from Buenos Aires, South

Photographer's Note

Letґs brake a little bit the summer series to post something different, from Buenos Aires. I took this picture watching the nice show at "Esquina Carlos Gardel", one of the most elegant tango houses where there was in the past the restaurant where Carlos Gardel used to dine with his friends, the "Chanta Cuatro".
The picture was cropped and converted to b&w. I didnґt had a tripod and I couldnґt use the dinner table because of its low position, so I just use my hands. The quality is not really at best but Iґve got the moment and beautiful position of this hot dance.

I love it! Shame about the sharpness, but then the blur gives it a sort of sensual movement.

Me gusta mucho la composiciуn de esta imagen, la posicion que has captado es genial. Es una pena que hubiera una iluminaciуn tan escasa, pues con el ISO que has puesto y esa velocidad tan lenta y a pulso, demasiado poco grano tiene. Un saludo.

wow ... the b&w and the shadows in this picture is amazing ...the amount of passion and rythem wrapped with all these black shadows just make you look and say nothing coz really there is nothing to say more than what is seen

Hi Jose,

Wonderful shot. Technically one can argue. As you say, it were not the easiest of circumstances, but emotion-wise it's just perfect. The hard black and white works really well and the mood jumps off the picture. Nice one! Later..

Olб Zeca. Acho que a posiзгo do par e o tratamento da imagem estгo fantбsticos. E pena que algumas zonas estejam sobre expostas, o que se torna bastante visнvel visto a superfнcie reduzida do que й mostrado. Fica uma bela ilustraзгo do Tango, num dos seus movimentos mais voluptuosos.

I like this shot... even if as you say it, quality is not bst, with the absence of tripod... this black and white, with this light just posed on the dancers... it is terribly attracting!!! I go to an official reception of dance at the end of June, it would seem that the photographs is not authorized but I will try all the same, without the flash not to be made local! Cheer for this shot!

Hello Jose,

what an amazing shot. Sometimes the subject outweighs the technical quality and this shot full of interest & passion. Good choice of B&W and the dancers are well placed in the frame. I wish I'd known about Tango Houses when I visited Buenos Aires all those years ago....I could have been a contender! A fine capture my friend, well spotted.

A tremandously beautiful image. The b/w, the light, the dark bg, a soft look of the dancers - everything making it a perfect one. Little bit off center is also helping to strengthen the compo.

Great image Zeca. I like that you chose B&W. I can't really see that it is blurry, looks fine to me. I hope you enjoyed the show, it certainly sounds like you did. I love watching all types of dance too, especially Latin American, not too good at it myself though.

You did a good job on this photo in spite of all of the limitations. I love the passion in dance and you captured the passion very well here. I have two dance performances to shoot this weekend. Not an easy genre of photography. Good job!

Oi Zeca,

Esta e de arrasar! Maravilhosa. Toda a paixao, o misterio, a sensualidade do tango, uma obra de arte esta foto. O preto e branco esta muito bom, pessoalmente gosto da superexposicao na parte clara pois parece que os corpos emitem luz e calor contrastando bem com o fundo completamente negro. E pena que o rosto da moca tenha ficado em uma parte de sombra, mas imagino que era impossivel de evitar. O momento da captura e perfeito! Adorei. Vejo que estava recentemente na Argentina. Que chance e uma pais que me fascina. Espero um dia aprender a dancar o tango.

I had never expect such an image from your hand. But i like when people shoot different subejects.
The artistic value is very high on this photo, it's well balanced a bit off center, which makes the photo even stronger.

Yes, this is a bit abstract, almost like s stone sculpture given its B&W finish but thats what stands out in the end.

I really like it .. the massive amount of black in the frame really adds to the mood and sense of the image .. as does the blur .. really evocative presentation.

Fabulous! Sharpness is definitely not an issue here, because the softness is so very apt for the theme. Perfect in B&W, the pitch black as the BG definitely makes it remarkable!

A very nice illustration of the sensuality of this dance. Perhaps a bit small in the picture, but a very good management of light and shades. B&W is an excelent (if trickyu) choice for such a tpoic and you succeeded very well.

Depois de ver a obra-prima que й Tango II vim procurar esta.
Esta tambйm estб muito boa, mas como vi a outra primeiro, nгo consigo achar esta realmente impressionante. Esta perde pela comparaзгo com a outra.
Alйm disso, a outra nгo deixa dъvida que й uma imagem de tango, enquanto que esta pode nгo ser imediatamente associada a essa danзa (pelo menos para quem entende pouco). Ou seja, a outra foto nгo precisaria de tнtulo.

O efeito obtido nesta outra foto tambйm й muito bom. A sensaзгo do movimento e sensualidade da danзa fica mais claro nesta foto. Talvez vocк tenha sido modesto demais em comentar "...the quality is not really at best...". Nem tudo й sу qualidade fotogrбfica, a composiзгo final influencia muito tambйm.
