Photographer's Note
Devonport to Auckland City
This is Devonport, an historic seaside village, on the northern shores of Auckland City. It is part of North Shore City, Auckland and is only 10 minutes by ferry across the Waitemata Harbourand 25 minutes by car to Auckland City centre, which you can see in the distance.
The hill you can see on the right is Mt Victoria, Takarunga in Maori. It is one of the volcanoes that Auckland was founded on. It affords spectacular views of the city and harbour and an interpretative map of the Hauraki Gulf is on the summit.
The hill was occupied by the Maori Tribe, Kawerau, and terraces and pits are still visible on the northern and eastern slopes. The grave of noted Maori chief Eru Patuone, The Peacemaker, is on the lower slope.
Devonport is the gateway to North Shore City and the sandy beaches of the East Coast including Takapuna, Milford (where I grew up and went to school), Long Bay, Browns Bay, Mairangi Bay and Murrays Bay, where I now live.
I am standing on North Head, known to the Maoris as Takapuna. It too was a volcano.
You can see Mt Victoria and North Head in the distance right behind this Bungy Jumper jumping off the Sky Tower
Here is another view of North Head as well.
I have also placed a photo of Mt Victoria, Takarunga as a Workshop.
Tha Map Location should open on Mt Victoria - hopefully!
Enjoy!!

Hi Janice
Lovely view of Auckland. Your composition with the city back left and the mixture of hills and water is very pleasant. The DOV is first class as is the sharpness. This would make a nice postcard.

Hi Janice,
I hadn't spent enough time in Aucland to see that sunny POV. Thanks, your composition is lovely! JG.

Hi Janice,
What pretty landscape you show to us here. The charmer village in foreground with the curve of its small bay, the city of Auckland in background and the sky form a great and beautiful composition.
The definition of the photo is excellent, with very good lighting and beautiful saturated colors affluent.
This one is a fantastic photo, I like much.

Josep

Hi Janice. This is a gorgeous photo in all aspects. The viewpoint is quite well chosen, I like how the s-shaped coast line leads the viewers eye across the foreground buildings to the city skyline in the background. The sunlight was ideal to give you a grand illumination, and the almost endless DOF increases the fun of exploring the rich amount of detail (I've looked at it for a minute and still have the feeling I haven't seen half of what is there to see). Very nice.

Hallo Janice!
I seldom saw such a clear air. Here in middle Europe we have got used to a rather unclean air...
Your photo is so bright and colourful and shows a lot of details! Thank you for showing this!
Greetings from Germany!

Hello Janice, still a splendid place or it with step so a long time it had only green hills there there and as was the case with the Indians in America which one makes place just like Maories and another people but with the difference of good of another country or wild town planning are to intensify in spite of the good direction here to see this superb framing of it all with the air thinking well and built very well by respecting all this beautiful nature and the shores of the surrounding the whole marvelously exposed under this splendid flocculent sky, sincerely

Belvedere.
Looks like the air is still fresh there :-)
Nice view with fresh colors. Good detail and sharpness.
The whites in the foreground do look a bit clipped (at this monitor, not the best one)

Hi Janice,
This is such a nice pic from North Head. Generally most 'cityscapes' have limited appeal to me but this one has a really nice feel about it - something very 'New Zealand'. I think a lot of that has to do with the balance of water in the pic, the curve of the waterfront, and the great old houses.
Also, your pic has nice colours and fantastic image quality. Well done, once again! :-)
Hugs,
Tony
P.S. I'll try to give you a call tomorrow (Thursday) evening.

Serwus Janice !
A stunning vista. Many points of interest shown in beautiful light but the curving shoreline dividing 'new' and 'old' Auckland is the main one. Not easy to create some dynamic scenery, but You did it perfectly due to the fine geometry across the frame. Beautiful and most informative Work.
Thank You very much,
Mat

A very clear photo with marvellous light and colour. I really like the clouds' shadows on the sea, the curve of the beach, and the way the road parallels the waterfront line of the city proper. Very appealing to me as I liked Devonport so much when I visited a couple of years ago.

Andrew

hi Janice,
Nice view of one of the few really lovely cities on this planet. Nice light and good colors, and crisp image. maybe a polarizer can make the clouds and sky stand out even more? It's worth purchasing in my modest opinion, especially in NZ :-)
cheers arnoud

This is a remarkable photo of great clarity and vibrant light, that makes this seascape so realistic! And what a "good-weather" sky!
