The small settlement of Riverton is close by the Southern Ocean and exposed to lots of winds blowing from the direction of Antarctica. Many of the trees around Riverton look like these with the branches which over time are forced by the winds to grow horizontally.
There's another similar one in the WS.
The town of Riverton is not thriving as evidenced by the other WS photo.

Hi Ian,
Impressive these trees and the wind effect, it is not useful to tell us which way the prevailing winds blow ... good colors contrast with the pleasant green and grey for branches and trunks, tfs.

Hello Ian, Stunning view of these windblown trees. I saw similar trees in the Last Hope Sound (Seno Ultima Esperanza) in Chilean Patagonia. It was also very far south, even closer to Antarctica. The abandoned old house looks nice too.

Hello Ian,
Marvellously shaped trees. If there had been such a strong wind at that moment, as we are inclined to believe, you would have been blown away. The powers of nature are amazing. The village where I grew up is full of such abandoned shops as in the WS, but of course the style is different.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Ian
South at right and north at left, obvious by the pronounced lean of the trees. Good landscape shot with superb sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Ian
No wonder the town seems to be slowly abandoned. Imagine living there with this kind of weather! They look a bit like the trees in Poland after the snowfall a couple weekends ago.
Well captured and nicely presented as a series of 3 very informative shots. Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hi Ian,
The scene is impressive. The point of view is showing the details of the trees affected by the wind. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian, well if we wanted an indication of how strongly the wind blows, we need to look no further than these pictures. I have never seen such a great example, fantastic.
Straight from the Antarctic.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian,
the strong and notable winds bent the trees and made them look as they were dancing.
Unusual and beautiful.
Good evening,
