Photographer's Note
I am a newcomer at night photography, and I have never attempted to photograph fireworks, so I was pretty satisfied with the results of this series – RIVERFIRE.
Riverfire is an annual (now ten years running) celebration to mark the commencement of the Brisbane Riverfestival (celebrating our waterway in the river city). Other events include a massive rubber duckie race, dragon boat races, outdoor eating, workshops, dancing, markets and various other cultural events. The fireworks ran continually for 35 minutes off the Story Bridge, Victoria Bridge, Goodwill Bridge and several barges and skyscrapers. Imagine the carbon emissions. To increase the recognition of the show, two RAAF F1-11 jets from Amberly Air Base buzzed the city with the torching ‘dump and burn’ fuel ignition. Spectacular! Other aeronautical delights included the stunt roulette planes and army helicopters.
If you are getting bored with the fireworks shots, let me know, otherwise I will post another six or so over the next week.

Another great "newcomer" fireworks shot, perfectly exposed with great color and good composition. Nice framing and good note to match.
Great work.

This is a spectacular series, Matt. I love fireworks, and the fact that you shot them in the city adds a very nice element and level of complexity. Good job on the exposure. How did you set it? (I usually use set the shutter at 30 seconds and let the camera meter the exposure).

Hi Matt. Great night shot. I love the colours you have captured in this shot. Perhaps a little more water at the bottom would have given the eye a natural path into the scene along the shoreline. Nice work all the same and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Matt. Superb composition and cropping. You have captured the moment here so well. Fireworks have had a revvival when done so well aas they are these days for the public enmass, rather than holding explsives in our hands as kids years ago. Much better bang for our tax buck, without the danger. Good series. TFS. Murray.

Excellent firework image Matthew. All too often people shoot the firework itself without capturing the rest of the environment, but you've done it well here...the sparkling bridge adds a lot to the image.

Hey matt,
Incredible night scenes and firework shots! The colors are balanced in perfect harmony with the rest of the city. I've always strived to take good night shots and cityshots, but they never quite work out to my advantage... Yours are phenomenally well done. In the meantime, I guess i'll just take pictures of mountains until i get the cities right. You should most definitely make a trip to Nepal one day. Just make sure its not tourist season, if you dont mind the cold!
Best, thanks for sharing the shots!
