Photographer's Note

This early morning image of reflections in Sylvan Lake near Keystone, South Dakota was taken on my second visit in as many days to this beautiful spot. The morning was bright and sunny and the waters almost perfectly calm - a very soothing moment in my travels this autumn.

impressive boulders and magnificient reflections.
The layering is very good and the definition from foreground till background excellent.
The colors are well saturated and beautiful.

Gerald, I knew this was Sylvan Lake the moment I saw it on the thumbnail! I got pictures from 1996 taken from this VERY SAME spot.
Great effort, my friend. All the magic of the Black Hills is right here, TFS!

Seems you had some nice weather along the road. I'm surprised that even SD brings you this kind of weather, luck was on your side here, that's for sure.
Good use of the foreground with the colourful grass which leads us to the reflecting part of the image which looks like a clean mirror with interesting rockformations in the background.
Never heard of this place, but it sure looks great...

A wonderful composition of this beautiful autumn landscape. The autumn tones of the foreground vegetation complement those of the rocks; both look great under that perfect blue sky. Beautiful reflections complete a fine image. Excellent image quality.

Perfect reflection for this extraodinary rocky formations! Amazing landscape photography, fantastic warm colours! Great idea to include this plants, in the foreground and break the total "equilibrium" that we normally see in reflection shots! Congratulations!

Hi Gerald,
The giant boulders make a striking reflection in the deep blue lake that is wonderfully complimented by the golden foreground grass.
The cloudless blue sky contrast brilliantly with the grey boulders.
The whole seen in seen in warm late day light.

Hello Gerald,

Through the quiet moment without wind get we a wonderful reflection in the lake.
Composition and presentation are superb.
Around the lake see we lovely light autumn colours also the rocks in background are lovely for look it.
I find the blue sky excellent suitable to the picture as contrast.

what a surprise to see a post from Sout Dakota. I was picturing you up in the Canadian Rockies. Did you get lost or was the weather so bad that you did an essential diversion? At any rate you got a first rate shot here. The composition with the grass in the foreground contrasting with the clarity of the background landscape makes this an outstanding shot.

This is a lovely early morning shot, with great reflections: maybe just a little more brightness would've made a difference? I'm envious of your travels!!

Well I have to critique this image of one of my favorite spots on this Earth ... such lovely stillness here early in the morning .. I love how your foreground is almost an inverse of the arch of the rocks .. love how well the blues are matched in the sky and reflection .. very nice. take care, John

WOW... this is incredible good! The well saturated colors and perfect reflection are amazing but you made it even better including the plants at the fg creanting a belance with the bg and layers for more depth.A image for my TE favorites Theme ;-)
