The Winner!, a photo from Vermont, Northeast

Photographer's Note

My local newspaper recently held a photo contest with a summer theme. The photos had to be taken in the summer and in the local area. I submitted a few pictures and two of them were chosen among eight finalist. Voting was opened to the public through snail mail and the Internet.

This picture of mine won hands down with over 50% of online votes and over 30% of mail-in votes. This picture along with an article of me was posted on the Frontpage last week. The actual posting will be in a special issue in July 2008. This is exciting and I'm very happy to win. My first photo contest victory!

I think it lacks a bit of sharpness and saturation, and the sky is washed out. Also, the low resolution does not help. Good compositio with girl and ballon at the opposite sides of the frame.

We see the magical world of youth in this remarqueble composition.

I made a WS to address a lack of contrast.

He..he..looks like i miss some nice pictures you have posted, i like alot this composition, captured on her back and the colourful baloon on the distance, despite the weather was not on the best, this compostion make it special. Congratulation for winning the contest Harjid and thanks for the posting.

Congratulations for the contest, I understand the jury has been caught by the depth of this scene and the link between both elements, even better would it be if the main part of the frame were not in the shade.
