Photographer's Note
I am back after having all sorts of computer problems. If you like your laptop I don't suggest accidentally dropping yours like I did! I had to get a new hard drive to get the thing to work again but I had everything backed up to external drives so I am ok with my pictures and everything else.
This is picture of Old Faithful at Yellowstone. It took about 45 minutes of waiting for it to go off. The weather wasn't that great when I was there and it stared raining pretty hard within an hour. I uploaded a video of this to YouTube and I think it's better than the picture. I highly recommend watching it with the sound on because you can here my D200 focusing and taking pictures at the same time.
I was able to take pictures and video at the same time because I had my D200 on my tri-pod hooked up to my Nikon remote release. Taken around the middle of the day.

Hello Stephen,
This is one of the finest captures of Old Faithful that I've ever seen! By shooting the geiser against the dark hill, you've further dramatized the contrast. I will watch the video next.
Warm regards,

Hi Stephen,
An exciting shot indeed and I can feel the thrill while waiting for it to go off. I also enjoyed the video clip, it somehow brought me closer to the site and have a better feel of the atmosphere there. A nice shot catching it at its peak with the clouds harmonizing the scene beautifully. Well done!!
Have a great weekend.

Sorry to hear about your computer problems - that's a shame, but you just gave me the inspiration to do a back-up right away! This is a pretty good shot, considering the weather was very cloudy and you get low contast in those conditions. I'll have to check out that video too. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Stephen nice video upload to watch on Youtube. I would have to agree with you on the weather conditions not helping with the situation. The capture is nice though and I am very glad you got your laptop recovered so this photo could be shared along with many others.
I gave my old laptop to my parents a couple of months ago and bought a new one for my use. Its nice now to be able to stitch ten photos together at full resolution and see the wonderful results. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Stephen
Glad for your come back with this great picture.
You were standing on the bigest caldera of the world.
Interesting back lights on this big vertical "hammam", the video is also apreciable.
Cheers

He Stephen
Hope you don't loss a lot of data due to this computer problem...
Its not easy to manage a camera and a video recorder at the same time... Considering the photo technical is more difficult to catch such a natural event like this geyser, I think you git a good picture. However the backlight is not easy to manage. I had caught myself in Chile a lot of picture of geysers I I know how difficult is it.
Have a nice day

Hi Stephen
A dark & moody shot of Old Faithful. Maybe I'll see it next year in November 2008? I like the tonal range in the sky. Perhaps I would dodge the fg a little, to bring out a bit more shadow detail, & perhaps increase fg & geyser contrast slightly as well? The bg sky, though, is perfect. Tfs!

This is something I definitely want to see for myself some day. Not the best weather as you say but I think you made the right exposure choice to get the detail in the sky and the geyser. Well done

Bonjour Stephen,

Hi Stephen, It's a wonderful display of force and beauty. You have managed to compose a very pleasing shot inspite of the cloudy conditions. Thanks for the link to an enjoyable video. Regards, Danilo

Hi Steve,
You really caught the explosion of steam at its peak as the video proves. I actually fing this more dramatic than the video although my connection loads very slowly here in Oregon. Good light management makes the steam clearlt distinguishable from the clouds. Sorry about the laptop, I've nearly dropped mine so many times. You motivated Alvin to do a back-up. For me the lesson will be, PUT IT IN THE CASE. I carry mine around still up and running all the time; I hereby resolve to quit doing that.

Hi Stephen,
impressive geyser, well taken with such that angle to give more stunning effect, with a vertical frame, the shot would be also interesting.

Hi Stephen,
This picture is certainly worth 45 minutes waiting. And I think the weather was perfect. The old faithful disappears on a subtle and fascinating way into the clouds.
Of course with a blue sky you also could have made a nice picture, but I think this one is more special.

nice shot Steve. Actually I can appreciate the eruption better in the photo than the video, but it was nice to see it in action on film.
