Flying Sunset, a photo from Michigan, Midwest

Photographer's Note

Hi I am back from a business trip to Wisconsin all of last week. This was taken after I had left Detroit on our way to Milwaukee. I was probably over Ann Arbor, Michigan when I took this. I was lucky enough to have my camera relatively near by. This wasn't easy to get much sharpness here because it was so dark out combined with the fact that we're moving at around 500 mph. I tried upping the ISO to help out with that and I opened up the lens.

Below the clouds was a cold and rainy day but once above the cloud tops it was great. Taken around 7:30 last week.

Bonjour Stephen,
une photoq ui ne manque pas d'esthйtique surtout dans cet horizon qui offre des couleurs de fusion mйtallique.
J'aime aussi ce coussin dense de nuages, trиs moutonneux.
La lampe au bout de l'aile est aussi un dйtail colorй de plus, aile qui forme une oblique tendant vers l'horizon.

Hi Steve,
Highlights look a bit bown out on the right but otherwise it's a nice inflight picture with the wing appearing clearly and the nice warm band on the horizon, also we get to see the clouds sea beneath.

Beautiful color! I've often seen beautiful scenes out the window a plane, but never actually taken a picture, because I wondered about the quality. This really looks amazingly good - great work!

Two things struck me first. One is the way the wing light is echoing the lovely colours of the sdetting sun and the other is the lovely sheen of light on the back of the wing. Nice one Steve

A beautiful view over the clouds from the plane. The colour are most beautiful and very attractive. The shapes of the clouds are also wonderful. Well done and thanks for sharing!

I took a similar shot flying fro Japan to Korea just recently & may upload it later. I like the sun's reflection on the wing tip. Fantastic color & sharpness. Tfs!

The setting sun combines with the clouds here for a fine result. I like the graphism provided by the plane's wing, with the glow of light on the tip also enhancing. A well conceived and executed shot. Cheers...later.

Nice shot taken from your airplane's window, beautiful sky colors and the presence of the clouds looking like a sea below the wing. Good shot.

This is fantastic indeed not easy picture through the window of the plane.
The red sky above the clouds gives a wonderful image, also the part of the wing with red light, very well done. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Stephen! I have a very similar shot as yours...only it's above the pacific ocean. I think the quality is still good. The colors and the cloud texture are the most attractive. The wing is well placed in the photo. rgds.

Hi Stephen,
I like this beautiful almost abstract composition very much. The strong orange horizontal line has a powerful answer in the dark wing of the plane. The light at the end takes care of the connection. This is to me another prove that nature and abstract art are sometimes very close.
