Photographer's Note
Driving to a TE Meeting meeting at Mono Lake, I captured this tourist looking in awe at the Mountain as it rises straight up from the Owens Valley floor to a height of 12944 ft/3945 meters.
Just to the left, out of sight; Mt Whitey is the tallest peak in the continental United States at of 14,505 feet/4421 meters. While nearby Death Valley has an elevation of 282 feet/86 meters BELOW sea level. In Alaska, Denali is far taller at 20,320 feet/6193 meters.
Correction posted based on feedback from skiblair and darrasin. Thanks guys

Bonjour Pat,
Une image pleine de profondeur aux couleurs naturelles cependant les zones très sombres semblent un peu bouchées. Cela viendrait-il du réglage de mon écran ? Merci.

Pat you have a good shot here. Mt Whitney is a beautiful, rugged peak. I didn't know about it being the highest in the continental USA. Good inclusion of the tourist on the shot to add some size and dynamics. Thanks Pat.

Hi Pat,
Nice shot here.Lovely colours of the bottom part. The lonely man walking through gives some well deserved life to this shot. But frankly, I found the bottom part more gorgeous and attractive than the top part which lacks colour and to me which is bit over bright as well.

Hi Pat,
Very wonderful perspective from mt Whitney, I like the three different colours between the green trees and the mountain. Colorful and well sharpness. Thanks Pat for share it and have a nice day.

This almost works very well Pat; I like the layering of the trees, ridge and high mountains in the background.
I think if you'd shifted the framing down slightly to include more of the road, and waited a couple of seconds until the tourist was further into the frame and away from the edge, the shot would have been a lot better.
Cheers,
Ben

Taking this in portrait format has allowed you to include so many horizontal layers. The image seems to be in two parts. Presumably because of the distances involved the mountains could possibly do with a bit more contrast, although the fg is fine in that respect. Adding Larry(?) to the frame was a good idea for scale. Well done
Kath.

Great shot of this majestic mountain! I like the layered effect of the hills as they rise toward the peak. First we have the green forest, then the warm brown hills, and then the cool blue mountain in the distance. The man in the lower corner really adds a lot to the scene and makes it so much more interesting. Well done!

Belle photo, photos devrais je dire, celle ci en renferme 4, les arbres, ensuite la montagne puis le glacié et enfin le ciel, ce qui forme a la fois un tout et 4 photos juxtaposées.Magnifique. Amitiés Thomas

Pat, that is extremely well captured. I love to see the different layers until topping to the Mt Withney. The colors of those layers are amazingly beautiful and the detail of this well known person (identity classified for TE purposes!) walking into the scene gives an additional element of depth and dynamics.

Hi Pat! The peak just dominates this shot, nice inclusion of the man for scale. I very much like the effect of repeating layers with the trees then the Alabama Hills and finally the granitic mountains. Well done!

Hi Pat,
If your person was not there this would seem very painting like .. it still does .. the saturation .. the way the layers seem kind of flattened (maybe from the nature of that middle ridge of from the mm.? It is a really interesting and beautiful image ..
take care,
John

Hello Pat
Happy to see pictures from your Californian TE meeting. The landscape is very different with the landscape of our Belgian meeting... I like the contrast between the different levels : blue sky, grey mountain, brown hills, green tree and ground. It's increased by the telelens.
Nice week-end.

Hi Pat
Incredible layers here..green, brown & grey. I think you captured the person in the correct spot as he is about to enter into the frame, but possibly you could have taken this shot a bit lower to get more of the path & less of the sky.

Hello Pat -
This is a nice image with lots going on to please the eyes. I like the layers developed with the trees, Alabama Hills, and then the High Sierra. I also like the proportions of the layers as they seem to complement each other. Though, I think the sky is a bit washed out, at least on my laptop. If I am wrong forget this portion of the critique. The use of the anonymous tourist is a good reference tool. All of the technical stuff looks to be spot on. Well done!
Thank you for sharing

Hi Pat,
Beautiful capture of the grand mountains rising stright up from the flat valley floor. Wonderful contrasting colors move toward the sky as our eye rise like the man in the photo.

Hi Pat,
Your composition is a textbook rendition of the layered effect. It looks like you used a short telephoto setting which compresses and enhances this perspective. Excellent photo and a very interesting geographic and topographic study. I would not want to try to climb up this steep and treacherous mountain. Excellent photography!

here you did a great job by taking that man into frame. it certainly helps us gauge the dimensions. i always love this kind of shots, going up right from the bottom....
thanks pat...
