Photographer's Note
One of the activities of this TE meeting was a hike up to Lundy Falls. In the early morning calm, this beaver pond captured members' attention.
The sweep of the Eastern Sierras is more impressive than the Western Sierras. The prevailing weather pattern dumps most of the moisture from the Pacific Ocean on the Western Sierra slopes. Although the Eastern slopes ARE generally steeper; less vegetation also shows the underlying geology more clearly.
There is also significantly less development in the Eastern Sierras because Los Angeles bought the water rights for most of the area in the early 1900s. Owens Lake was allowed to dry up with little protest. However as Mono Lake continued to shrink; activists fought for more water and in 1992 won a court decision that forced the LAMWD to maintain Mono Lake at a defined level; however, most of the water from this stream will go to taps in Los Angeles.
See WS for one of our fearless leaders in action. Can you guess who?

Mirror images achieved with water never fail to impress and are one of my favorites. The pine needles draping across the bright blue sky, complete the frame. Rich detail with your f/16 and great handle on exposure. Nice!

Beautiful reflection! The air and the water both come across a crystal clear in this, and give the feeling of purity. I like the vivid colours, and the tree branch hanging down from above is a good addition. Well done!

Hello Pat,
Very nice indeed! The image is very true to how I saw it that day and captured perfectly. The pine branches at the top make a nice partial frame. And the exposure in the sky and reflection are right on, well done! Looking forward to seeing more gems!

Pat and Larry, who the heck is the author here? ;-) ...
That view was definitively inspiring and I can recollect so well the place out of this shot. Well composed, good saturated colors as they usually are in that part of California. I like your text that characterizes the essence of the Eastern Sierra Nevada extremely well and gives LA the right punch.

Hi Pat,
Wonderful mountain landscape with stunning colors and clarity. Very striking reflection in this isolated pond and I love the little bit of pine showing in the upper portion of this excellent image. Very interesting note describing the difference of the east and west slopes and the big water controversy which brings to mind the movie "Chinatown."

Hi Pat,
Hope this meeting was a full success and that you had great fun, it's good to see such meetings spreading, as i'm writing this I'm about to depart to Belgium for a meeting of 23 members and gettign excited about the fun ahead. The view you're presenting today is lovely in its symetry and reflection, all the quietness of the early morning delivered a perfect mirror, very nice to see.

I like the inclusion of the tree branches in the top of this composition, Pat. Without those the scene would have been a little flat, but now it has a lot of depth and feels nicely balanced. A very photogenic beaver pond I must say! Cheers . . . David

Hi Pat,
Your scenic of the Eastern Sierras looks a lot like our Colorado Rockies. This looks very much like the scenery in Rocky Mountain National Park, as a matter of fact. This is a pretty good sized beaver pond and I'll bet that there are some nice trout in here. You created a beautiful shot and the framing by the nearby branches adds some depth to your image. Great shot of this beautiful spot!
