Photographer's Note
Hello all.
I awoke the morning that this photo was taken and decided to head down to the island to see what I could find. Many pictures I have posted of Solomons Island and I suspect I will post many more. Looking up at the sky this early day I could tell that I would see something quite nice if I was patient...of course I was not. I made my way downt route 4 past the empty parking lots and dark churches onto the lower end of the island. There I found...ladies powerwalking.
Yes...
I thought about taking pictures of them...they are a bit scary though; their slightly snarling faces turned to look down at me, "HHHIIIIII!!!!" came the unison high pitched bellow. Fear racked my body.
I walked on. I tried to guess where the sun would come over the horizon and picked a few bad places to start. As the light began to grow I ran from spot to spot as I realized that I would miss what was turning out to be the most...not dramatic enough? THE MOST beautiful sunrise I have ever seen. I do believe this sky justifies posting another shot showing the sun beginning to hide or crawling out of its slumber.
Hope you like,
Chris
Frame, shrink, sharpen...that's all...these were most definately the colors.

Very nice framing of this beautiful sunrise. The colors of the sky are rich and nicely saturated. Excellent perspective with the boats on the forground and the marina on the back. You live in a beautiful place Chris :-)

Outstanding shot! The color of the sunrise is incredible and really grabs my attention. I also like the way you used the boats in the foreground to add some interest there, and the bit of tree in the upper left to break up the sky a bit. The overall effect is well balanced and beautiful.

Well Chris I can just imagine you running from side to side to get the sweet spot for building a framework around this sunrise. I do believe you found it too. With the tree on the upper left and the balance of the frame on the right is a match to boot! I also love the wonderful pink highlight layers in the sky too. That is really eye catching. I am thinking of a position to the left from here so that distant building on the distand dock would not be covered from the foreground two boats. But then could you have kept the tree in the frame? I would have liked a multi layered perspective if possible. Finally if there is one thing I have to suggest is one final check on whether the water line is level. Ohhh ouch I am being too mean to you after you giving me 6 point tonight.. Argggghhh...I think I am being too picky alreay on your fine work....ggggrrreeaaattt work!!!!

WOOOOOOOOOw Chris,
From your notes first......
""As the light began to grow I ran from spot to spot as I realized that I would miss what was turning out to be the most...not dramatic enough?""
This is what is expected from you now. Run to your left or right, move 10steps back or sprint like a tiget 100metres ahead to get that POV. This is the Hallmark of a photpgrapher who loves his lens, who loves his job of shooting, and whose name is ....Christopher.
Yes, this is the litmus test of a great shooter. Never stick to one spot, get up early in the morning and the result is on TE now.
Do you know the softness of the morning and the freshness is oozing out from your shot?
Its peace everywhere and the colours are amazing.......and I have got a print of this shot too. though in B&W.
Frankly speaking I have now words today to express myself...amd just feel mine joys brother.
Very Well Done,
Rajeev

Salut Christopher,
Looking for light and a way to play with, is really a specific hunt for photographers. See the importance of the two sources of light in your photo (without the electric one, however not very present, the picture would have been completely different). You did a nice work here with this peaceful harbour early in the morning.
Ciao,
Christophe

Hi Christopher!
Fantastic composition.Colors of clouds are stunning.Good angle of view.

Hi Chris
An interesting multi faceted compo...yes the colours are spectacular, Love the wonderful pinkish layers in the sky, the clouds..they’re very eye catching. But just thinking aloud...the building with soft yellow lights spot on the centre..could you have kept it to one side rather than behind the boats? A change of perspective I mean...only you can tell whether it was possible!. Even now I love this…..infact this's a great work!..just also wondering whether after the initial bout of fear whether you joined the Power Walking brigade?;-)
Friendly Regards

Hi Chris,
That is really great. That is something which a lens-lover will always do, i.e running from spot to spot to get digfferent povs and choose the best one. I can understand the effort you give to your photos and that is truly respecable.
Regarding this post, I really liked it a lot. At first I thought those colours to be adjusted by ps, but then read your note and find that that is not the case! Its really great that you have captured such a great sun rise colour! And a nice pov too!

Hi,
Well, sitting in a cold grey rainy day (which I know also has it's good points), I could certainly do with some of that! A deceptively simple shot at a glance but it is soon realised that the overall balance and colour are superb. Thanks.

Hello Christopher.
Dramatic is the right word to describe this sunrise. You had what was necessary to arrive at this result,a good cloud cover, illuminated from the underside and reflected in the water. The pier with the boat are of interest also.
A very good one
Have a good WE
