Photographer's Note
Interstate highway I-5, here also known as the Golden State Freeway, is the only Interstate running all the way from Canada to Mexico. It runs directly through downtown Los Angeles, where it changes name to Santa Ana Freeway.
This is "going home" between Los Angeles River and Silver Lake Reservoir, just before the Glendale Freeway Interchange. After that, a right turn merging onto Pasadena Freeway, CA 110 - here also a part of historic Route 66 - and after the 4-level Interchange with Hollywood Freeway, choose second lane from right and, after the exit, left lane to end up at 6th Street - and you'll be home free!
I just loved it!!

Traffic and expressways something LA is known for. It really is a huge part of the daily life. Something ignored but that you found something in to photograph. Detroit has a similarly impressive system of expressways and actually I have several shots similar to this from my trips to and from school. But this captures it much better than I ever did. It's not just LA, then, but an American thing. An icon of our society. Nicely done.

Driving into or around big American cities on those multi-lane highways that are beyond any scale that Central Europeans are used to continues to exhilarate me. So even though this looks just like the ordinary driver's seat perspective of a busy highway, I really like this shot a lot. Fine late afternoon light. Very American indeed, Kaj. From the shooting position it looks to me like you took this while driving (you don't need to answer though - who knows if the rental car guys have someone browsing TE on a regular basis ;-)
I guess this makes a fine addition to my "Americana" theme ...

Nice one. When I come back from vacation abroad I always remember the car (it's driving characteristics) and the road because I love driving. I would love a camera in front of my bumper which i could activate with a touch of a button on my steering wheel. This picture gives a good impression on the 'road feel' in the US.
