Photographer's Note
“Little Ukraine” is an area in the Manhattan neighborhood of the East Village that dates as far back as the late 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the population really started to grow, and, after World War II, the population of Ukrainians in the area reached 60,000. Today the area still has some Ukrainian stores, restaurants, and cultural spots, but the Ukrainian population has dropped. Still, the area currently houses nearly a third of New York City's Ukrainian population.
Last week I took a walk in “Little Ukraine”, and I took photos of some of the Ukrainian businesses, as well as the recent art that has been popping up in the neighborhood. After seeing Malgo’s post with a lovely mural from Warsaw, I thought I’d share a couple of examples from here in NYC.
Please see the second photo in the WS.
May there be peace in Ukraine in the very near future…

Hello Brenda,
A great example of another example of support for Ukraine right now. In my street several houses fly the Ukrainian flag now every day. The blue and yellow colours are nice and vivid here. Good inclusion of the blurry background as well.

Hello Brenda,
This is a very well timed photo and a perfect complement to Malgo's picture earlier today. The ruthless war crimes committed by Putin and his murderous troops have shocked most of the world, and naturally also areas populated by Ukrainians even as far away as NYC. Not much imagination is needed to recognize Zelensky in the WS. (He got into politics in a way similar to Trump, but what a difference of human dignity!)
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Brenda, another post dedicated to Ukraine, but while Malgo is in the middle of the situation, you are very distant and it is a nice surprise to see how even in your city there are many signs of incitement to the cause of this unfortunate nation. An interesting visit to the neighborhood where most of the immigrants live, beautiful capture and a portrait that unfortunately did not manage to the best of the president in the WS, excellent quality! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Brenda,
I am glad that I inspired you to post this nice picture, the sign that the world has united in the support of Ukraine. But it doesn't make any impression on Russia.
Have a nice weekend

Hi Brenda,
I didn't know there is a Little Ukraine in the NYC, but I suppose every nation has a part of a town there.
Great sign with not only popular these days colors but also a phrase know to everybody, I think.
I see in the workshop is another one. Also with a famous already phrase.
The war which Russia started has united all western world in an unprecedented way.
I keep praying for the best possible outcome of this terrible situation,
M

Hello Brenda,
This devastation of Ukraine has been a uniting process for most of the other countries of the World. We all know what greater disasters could happen if power-hungry leaders try to take neighbours by force!
Everywhere that I go (and there are no Ukrainians in our neighbourhood) people are raising money, collecting useful goods and finding homes for refugees! Two local residents are out in Poland now, distributing goods and seeking to liaise with homeless refugees.
What terrible things to happen to quite innocent people!
Thank you for this reminder of solidarity, Bev :-)

Hello Brenda,
I've seen both pictures. The text on the board shown in the WS reminds me that it's not easy to help the Ukrainians as much as possible without risking Russia starting the third world war.
In that sense I see the statements of Biden who flatly says the truth about Putin, but I don't know whether it is really sensible. Putin is not an ordinary politician who makes reasonable judgments but a power-hungry man who has no compassion whatsoever for ordinary citizens.
Do you know if there are also blue & yellow paintings in the street of the Russian consulate?
Best regards, Paul

Hello Brenda,
The blue and yellow colours of Ukraine are eyecatching in this tribute sign. Good sharpness and well framed and composed with no wasted space. Tfs!

Hello Brenda,
I hope we can do more than put up signs of solidarity, i can't believe the war is still going on.
I like the inclusion of the blurred cyclists and FedEx truck in the background.
Regards,
MT
