Photographer's Note
Alstrom Point, Taken in the morning with a view of Gunsight Butte and Padre Bay and a high viewpoint over Lake Powell. I was really here for the sunset, though it was a nice day, the sun light was very strong with dark shadow, I was hoping after the sunset it will have some nice sky on top, but it was cloudy at the western horizon, The sun just went into the dark clouds, turning gray and dark. Normally, the morning is not good for photo here, because of the backlighting and haze, but this morning turn out to be okay with some clouds to block the direct light from the sun, the whole landscape is nicely illuminated.
This is part of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. We drove for about 3 hours on a bumpy dirt road. the last 2 miles or so was so bad we were driving up rocks that were like rocky stairs. We ended up staying out here camping through the night with no facility. We had enough food and water for the night.
High-clearance 4WDs is recommended, but any high-clearance vehicle is acceptable with good tires. Road is not passable when there is rain. You will have to pass a decent size creek with running water depending on the season, the water can be higher or lower.
See Previous post for anther shot taken later when the sun was brighter.
Good Morning Lake Powell

Hey Way, this is an amazing photo indeed. I love the clear view of this canyon. Very sharp. And super wide, covering almost all things there. The sky is just wonderful. And the colors are awesome. Wow, full frame and 17mm, that works out well. Well done. Sothy

Hi Way
Back to your US western shots !
To your gorgeous shots, should I say !
It's composed as we're all taught in all photo schools, the FG is superb in itself, not to mention the icing on the cake with the little yellow bush, the chromatic blue/orange juxtaposition works perfectly
Just a bit disapointed by the sky, somehow
best to you Way

Hello Way.
This landscape with its orange cliffs is quite different to the Norwegian, but somehow it reminds me of Lofoten. However, everything is great here, colours, composition, POV and so on, beautiful! I especially like that the warm colour of the cliffs make a perfect contrast to the blue cold water. TFS.

WOWWWW! Wasn't it me that was complaining about grey clouds and rain in the desert ... now you show me how to use this light and how well grey clouds work. A great lesson! It is an amazing landscape, okay men-made in some ways, I agree, but still a fascinating corner to visit. What a great experience to sleep along the road side, a little scary maybe and yet something different. I bet you had a fantastic night sky. Guessli ... Barbara.

Hi Way,
I did not get there, but I really regret.
Plenty of interesting places are available there rather with AWD and high clearance. I have the reason to come back again with a better car.
Beautiful vertical composition. The colors are incredible of course. It does not look like the Earth at all. Sky is so rich and clouds make a great play with the light buy honestly the landscape is so incredible that the sky does not matter for me. The light in the whole shot is superb. It is literally a pleasure to look at it and contemplate it.

hello Way,
this is a good example of what a powerful camera can produce in the hands of somebody who knows how to use it :) I don't have to tell you that the photo is great, you know it yourself. I love the varying red and orange tones, and in the vertical composition the foreground works really well to point the viewer towards the rising sun beyond the lake. textures, light, colours - everything is just right. I have to get back to this place in hopes to see light like this :)

Hi Way
I still haven't got around to posting a photo but we did have a pretty sunset from the view point within Glen Canyon national park - and this after a day of cloud and rain. Of course the view point was very different and flatter than yours which has so much depth. Just love the details in the foreground with the pretty flowers. The contrasting colours are attractive too. If there was one place on our trip I would have spent an extra night, it would have been here.

Hi Wayne,
Major league stuff here; I know that deserted landscapers from TE would have raved about this shot.
Just for the sharpness you've managed to get, it's already something to kneel down and praise. I know how you can't resist to include something in the foreground and you've found yourself a nice bouquet of wild thing here, although the size isn't significant to be called a foreground, but the rock formation a few feet after is nice enough.
I like all the subtle earth tones combined to the aqua/turquoise/teal water. Great capture of the sky above and clever PP to get the best from the sun and the ground.
You're doing good stuff and you know it.

Hello Way,
I write again my comment beacause I had the bad idea to put in it a bad character HTML and my comment has been erased...
8-o : it's my head discovering this shot.
It's so beautiful ! The sight and your shot.
I think it's difficult to have a landscape more colored than this one. I saw red landscape in Corsica and I thought it's not possible to see nicer landscapes but when I look at your shot, I'm wondering...
The quality of your shot is perfect and allows us to really appreciate the sight. I'm wondering if you have really the same camera like ours.
Sometimes, there are shots which receive a lot of comments and which don't deserve them according to me but this one really desserve them. Great work.
For each shot you post, I think you couldn't do better next time and every time, you succeed to surprise me.
Im' waiting the next...
Have a good week.
