Photographer's Note
Our recent TrekEarth summit concluded at this spot here just west of Tuolumne Meadown in the eastern high country of Yosemite National Park.
Although it was pushing mid-day at this point, there was enough cloud-cover to make some decent shots attainable. Here the attraction was the popcorn sky cloud patterns. Since I live in southern California where cloudy skies are rare and hazy blue skies the norm, I jumped when this opportunity presented itself.
The shot also features the granite domes that have made Yosemite famous and hugely popular with rock climbers. Just to the left of this spot, Larry Carolan captured some scrambling up a similar dome. See that here.
Regards,
Doug

Excellent picture. I like very much the overall white tones and the very special effect it gives between the rocks and the sky dotted with coluds. Very well done.

The popcorn sky is well featured against the granite domes. That central tree is a beautiful specimen and very prominent in your frame. It seems to be saluting you farewell. A clever and smart shot of what you had to work with.

Hello Doug -
Very nice for mid-day. I too like the popcorn look to the clouds and they did knock down the contrast for a nice image. The diagonal composition of the ridge line makes this image work. Well done.
Thank you for sharing.

Doug, that was a nice moment to conclude our busy and exhaustive (were we nimbal enough?) meeting. The popcorn pattern like clouds were a good element to give the right contrast and light to work out the texture of those domes in the otherwise harsh mid-day light conditions.

Hi Doug,
The diagonal split frame really works well here with the fluff in the sky contrasting with the solidity of trees and granite. The uniformity of the 'popcorn' seems quite unique to me. HLj, Pat

Hi Douglas,
Very unique! I think this is a really cool shot with the cloud formation above and the beautiful details in the rocks. The lighting and details on the rocks are fantastic as well! Great POV and great composition! Great work, Douglas!

Hi Doug. This cloud pattern always makes a wonderful crown for any shot but it certainly compliments the granite domes exceedingly well. Great POV with nice detail and colour. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Douglas,
The stark timeless granite and the way the little clouds give such a feeling of motion really strengthens both elements .. and the tone and texture of the granite just leaps off the screen .. even in the thumbnail. I really like this.
take care,
John
