Photographer's Note
BEAUFORT is located on Port Royal Island, in the heart of the Sea Islands and South Carolina Lowcountry. The city is renowned for its scenic location and for maintaining a historic character by preservation of its antebellum architecture.
The Lowcountry region had been subject to numerous European explorations and failed attempts at colonization before the British founded the city in 1711. The city flourished first as a center for shipbuilding and later, when the colony was established as a slave society, as the elite center for the Lowcountry planters through the Civil War.

THIS PICTURE shows one of the smaller houses in The Point (or The Old Point), the historic district in downtown Beaufort. Spanish Moss hanging down from the old oak trees is stealing the show yet again. Very Southern, that is.
---
FUN FACT no.1
Spanish Moss is neither Spanish nor is it moss.
---
FUN FACT no.2
Beaufort, South Carolina is pronounced /ˈbjuːfərt/. There is a Beaufort in North Carolina too. That one is pronounced /ˈboʊfərt/. Neither of them are close to the original French pronunciation.

Hallo Benny,
Een mooie foto en een uitstekende verticale compositie, die bestaat uit het witte, houten huis en de karakteristieke veranda ervoor. De overhangende takken waar het mos vanaf hangt zorgen voor een mooie omlijsting.

Hi Benny
I have to agree, that Moss hanging down is the main focal point. Imagine the scene without the moss, it just wouldn't be the same. and the 4 columns make a strong impact as well, gives it a colonial and rich feel. nice one. cheers

Dag Benny,
Bedankt
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,

Hi Benny
This looks so cozy, I am especially impressed by that enormous tree on the left and lush shady vegetation giving a tropical feel which is matched by that 'verandah kampong' house look alike. A cool shot with excellent colour, shades and dapple light. Well done.
Best regards

Hello Benny
The US flag adds place and context and the hanging Spanish moss adds a mysterious mood and atmosphere. Good sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Hello Benny,
I have seen this moss hanging from trees in an arboretum in Scotland. I thought the tree was being infected by something but it is all quite natural!
The draped trees make an interesting and unusual awning for the historic-looking house.
Do most houses have the national flag on show?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

A very nice building in a colonial style, it looks a bit mysteriously hidden in rich greenery.
Spanish moss is known in Poland only as a greenhouse plant, a very nice photo
Regards Ryszard
