Photographer's Note
This is a shot I took about a week ago on a foggy morning. I had several cameras in tow and got a fair number of nice negs. This is the Majestic oak, aka the Oak Queen. You have seen several images of her in B&W, and now I am try to get some good color images of her. This image is somewhat tweaked to capture the little details that film somehow misses sometimes. I boosted the green of her mossy areas a bit and colled the highlights slightly to push the fog, which was not as soupy as I would have liked. I love nice thick mists and the fog this day was only 7 out of 10 in my opinion. Still the foggy season is just starting. I also warmed and dodged the ground around the tree just a bit. This is the result. Let me know what you think.
Here are other images from that same soupy day for reference:

Good morning, Hugh,
Your last b&w of the "Oak Queen" I had saved to put on my desktop from time to time. I think I like this one at least as much. The rich greens of the moss enhance its 'majestic' appearance and bring it more to life. It does not have the spookiness of your foggier b&w version (which is what I liked about it); this looks more like an invitation to refuge beneath the fabulous arms of its branches.
I took a shot at rendering the b&w in watercolor, but it bombed... perhaps I'll give it a go again with this one. Do you mind?
Regards, Lisa

Hello Hugh,
It's a beatiful picture of a wonderful tree...
I love so much the foggy atmosphere (often much more than blazing sun:-) and I think you've captured it very well. The result is very natural and details great. A tree to hug.
Wish you lots of fog in the future.
TFS
Michèle
