Photographer's Note
I was so excited when I got this shot. I couldn't believe it. I had been meaning to photograph the Capitol and the reflecting pool for quite some time, and when I went on this particular day a storm started brewing and I almost packed up and headed home. I decided to take my chances and I stood there for 30 minutes taking long exposure after long exposure, hoping to catch a bolt of lightning. Well, it paid off. The bolt that I did catch looks like it's almost hitting the Capitol building, even though it was probably way off in the distance. I only wish I had captured this on my Canon 1Ds or my Nikon D60, because the Canon D60 that I was using at the time didn't produce as large and crisp an image as the more modern digital SLRs.

Hi Stephen,
WOW, very nicely done!! Nicely composed with the reflection. And to have the lightning bolt captured too. WOW... A great photo.

Wow. Great shot. I would have loved taking a picture like this. I like taking lightning pictures, I just never get any good backgrounds. I like the reflection in the water. Thanks for sharing,
Kevin

That's a great shot. Lightning is big and clear (even with f/22). The Capitol is properly exposed. Nice starburst effect around lights.

Brilliant shot. Especially like the reflection. and the fact that it's off center. Is it me, or the photo slightly skewed? Thank you for your patience--it's paid off for all of us. Did you use some kind of star filter or did it just turn out that way?

Very cool! Besides the lightning, you also had great timing for the color (not too dark).
