Photographer's Note
I’ve already posted recently from Rockefeller Center, but the other day I was surprised by a fun, new installation I had to take more photos! I hadn’t heard about this in advance, so I was happily surprised to find interactive fountains in between the rink and 30 Rockefeller Plaza. There were also rainbow flags surrounding the plaza in honor of Pride month.
These fountains, entitled “Changing Spaces”, are the work of Danish visual artist Jeppe Hein, and they will be in the plaza until early September. They are hard to describe, so here are some words from the Rockefeller Center website:
“Changing Spaces will consist of four circles with enclosing walls of water emerging and shooting up from the ground. The circular water ‘walls’ rise and fall at random, and merge into each other, dividing the water pavilion into smaller spaces within the structure. Visitors are allowed to move within the structure from space to space, as the artwork continually changes shape and appearance out of their control...”
In the main photo I focused on one of the fountains, together with the rainbow flags. In the WS are two other views with more than one fountain.
And yes, I did jump inside one of the fountains. It was a lot of fun! :-)

Hi Brenda,
I haven't checked the weather in NY, but my guess is it's hot over there too. The fountain is obviously quite welcome and you have perfect timing capturing that guy jumping. Dense row of rainbow flags adds color nicely.

Hello Brenda,
The main photo is a very appealing combination of fountains, colorful flags, people in action and big city architecture. The WS are focused more on the intriguing fountains. Can you walk inside them without getting totally soaked? There is a large exhibition presently by Jeppe Hein at the Museum of modern art here in Stockholm. Most of it consists of indoor installations, but there seems to be a similar fountain outside. I will have to see it!
Thanks for your latest critiques. Did you see the movie "Midsommar" by US director Ari Aster? It's supposed to show Swedish traditions going berserk. I didn't see it myself, but apparently there's a lot of blood. ;-)
Have a nice weekend,
Gert

Hello Brenda,
A wonderful impression from a sunny Manhattan. Great combination of the fountain and the people (and the people having fun around the fountain) and the rainbow flags, which look so beautiful and bright in the clear sunshine.

Ciao Brenda, three beautiful photos of this novelty, topped with many flags with the colors symbolizing the month of minority rights and diversity, the quality is truly excellent as always and the prospects always winning. Unfortunately in Milan the fountains were turned off due to the terrifying water crisis, it hasn't rained for 6 months and even the rivers are almost dry, never seen such a thing. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Brenda,
Though the main photo is more colorful, the Ws with two fountains in full blast made more impression, IMHO.
Have a nice 4th of July weekend,
Ike

Hello Brenda,
I didn't remember it was possible to see the spire of St. Patrick's Cathedral from Rockefeller Center. I know the cathedral is very close but thought the many buildings would obscure the view.
If NYC has a summer as warm as most European countries currently, it must be a lot of fun to walk between the fountains.
The flags of the different countries have now been replaced by many rainbow flags. Equally colourful of course.
Splendid pictures of 'Summer in the City'.
Best regards, Paul
