Photographer's Note

Last week I visited the World Trade Center area in lower Manhattan, and I was happy to find that it was more vibrant than ever.

Right beside the Oculus transportation hub, there were many food options. “Smorgasburg”, the largest open air food market in the US, had ten eclectic food vendors stretched out across one block. Also, for the second year, the Oculus Beer Garden was open, with a selection of beer, wine, and German food and snacks.

I noticed that new art has also appeared behind the Beer Garden. Previous murals have been replaced by three large faces. They appear to be the work of Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra.

Here you can see some of the patrons of the Beer Garden, along with the Oculus on the left, and a beautiful and colorful geisha in the background. It looks like the men in front spotted me taking some photos. :-)

Hello Brenda,
It's fun to see the exciting elements of the Oculus from an angle where they have become parts of the background and the focus is elsewhere. Like the "street art" or the crowd of people relaxing with a few glasses of beer. (Do people actually drink beer from glasses in the US? The last 500 times I've seen people drinking beer in American movies it's always been straight from the bottle.)
This is a good combination of architecture, art and human touch. The WS shows us this place in its greater context and we see the Oculus more like we are used to. Both photos are very nice but this is definitely also my choice of main upload.

Hello Brenda,
A really cool mix of the always amazing architecture of the Oculus and the colourful paintings on the side of this smaller building. The area in the foreground full of people looks really attractive. I can easily see us have a drink there when my father and I can visit NYC again.

Hi Brenda,I see that around the famous Oculus there is a lot of life, many places to eat and drink, a return to normal life hoping not to go back. You used the background offered by the architecture to create two magnificent photos, in my opinion the best is the one in the WS, congratulations for the always perfect quality. Hello Brenda,
I remember there were some tables and some food vendors but in my memory they were located a little bit further from the Oculus. They look very close in these photos.
The colourful painting makes a nice contrast with the white building.
Great combination of wonderful architecture, street art and a cozy place for having a drink and a chat.

Today we are neighbours on TE.
You create a nice depth and excellent perspective with this daily life picture.
Indeed we see a lovely picture with the people to drink a beer after a good walking
Here we see everything in a cozy surroundings.

Missed this one. The colorful mural at right of the Asian woman with her hair bedecked with flowers adds a vibrant splash of colour. Good sharpness and nice to see people enjoying themselves outdoors once again. Tfs!

It does look like a fantastic area which offers many photo opportunities both for people photographers and those interested on modern architecture.
It is incredible for me to realize that when I visited NYC this was non existent yet. I suppose it is not necessarily me being so old but NYC evolving so fast.

Hi Brenda,
Excellent combination of Oculus transportation hub with daily life of New Yorkers in front of colorful mural. Although Oculus is Calatrava's famous work, attention is attracted by the colors of the mural.
Great picture as well as colors, light and sharpness.
