Happy end of 2012 and start to 2013 everyone... I though this was an appropriately celebratory image. My wife is a graduate of Yale University and of the Yale University Marching Band, and as a result of this I get dragged on an annual basis to the Yale-Harvard Football Game. These two schools are, to put it mildly, not known for their ability in football, so it's usually a terrible game, but at least it's also in a cold outdoor stadium with concrete benches!

This year, at the tailgate (outdoor, car-based cookouts that are regular features of American football games) we had a visit from the actual current Yale Precision Marching Band, as so many of our friends were members. They performed for us for a few minutes, and I managed this shot towards the end.

Here's to a wonderful 2012, and an even better 2013!

I like the high kick and baton action in the foreground. :-) This is a lively shot, and I like the way the entire frame is filled with people and instruments. Very nice! :-) A very happy 2013 to you and your family!

Yes, I agree, this is a perfectly appropriate celebratory image with which to mark the end of 2012 and the bginning of a New Year!

Sounds as though watching and listening to this band was a lot more fun than watching the football, especially as you'd been sitting on cold concrete - not good for the piles, you know!

An excellent photograph, the foreground lady, although not exactly svelte, showing off some pretty impressive agility. The colours are wonderfully vibrant and the exposure is spot-on even although this is clearly a contre jour image. There is one spot of lens flare off to the left but it's not at all distracting.

Hi Andrew,
Some moments are really made to be captured and this is one of them. The girls with the baton is the hightlight for me here, not only for her iumpressive acrobatics, but also the expression on her face as she performs. A perfect celebratory atmosphere, class!
