Photographer's Note

Chichen Itza was one of the largest Maya cities from the Late Classic(c.AD 600900) and into the early portion of the Early Postclassic period(c.AD 9001200). The city may have had the most diverse population in the Maya world, which could have contributed to the variety of architectural styles at the site.

Chichen Itza is a UNESCO World Heritage Site archaeological sites. In 2007 Chichen Itza's El Castillo(shown here)was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World after a worldwide vote.
