Photographer's Note
It sits outside of the entrance to the Regional Museum in Tuxtla Gutiérrez. The sculpture is Olmec from the Middle Pre-Classic of 1200 - 500 BCE. It comes from the village of Tiltepec in the south of Chiapas, near the Pacific Coast. Tiltepec's geo coordinates in Google Earth are: 16.23.44.16 N and 83.52.06.28 W.
A crouching individual emerges from the mouth of a jaguar. The intent of the sculpture is to remind the populace about rituals in which the ancestors take on the shape of a jaguar - representing the Creation God, Itzamnaaj.
