Photographer's Note
This scene was found when I ventured off into the woods from a snow shoe trail up Mt Washington. There are a number of places to hike up here, but this scene was only a half a kilometer in front of the Raven Lodge.
I lucked I know on this photo. Mostly because of the lighting and secondly the weather. It snowed the night before and the sun came out the following day. And because Dec is one of the months in the year when the sunlight is at a nice low angle. This photo was taken just after 10 am. I think the polarizer filter helped prevent overexposed pixels and also contributed to the deep blue sky tone. Some of the best photos you will ever capture will be the photos where the lighting makes you say ooooh... aaaahh...That was what I sensed when I saw this.

Hello Paul,
A snowshoe away from the snowshoe trail--- You are correct, the lighting allows one to say ooooh and aaaaahhh.
Very crisp image...

Cette version verticale avec cet arbre en vedette n'est pas mal non plus. Très belle série.

Hi Paul,
I love the quiet softness and serenity of this image. The pristine snow with only the rabbit trail is perfect. The framing of the light area using the darker foreground is excellent. Exposure is spot on and the polarizer did the sky proud.
Cheers!

Hi Paul,
The low light, the shades, the wonderful blue gradual in the skyline, the rabbit tracks. Wow, it just all comes together here! It's hard to keep white snow white without turning out grey or over-exposed, but you managed well here. And then that skyline. Polarizer worked out well for the shady parts in the compo too. Very nice work!! Maybe partly lucky with the weather, but it take a good photographer as well to materialize it then into a photograph like this one.
Greetings, Dennis

Hi Paul
I think this kind of capture, as you said, will surprise some times, and this one is just excellent. Rich blue color and the shadows really add to it
Happy 2008

You got some really great snow shots on Mount Washington - this one in particular. The sun on that one tree is very interesting, because it's like a spotlight on it. The tracks in the snow are great too, adding a lot of interest to the scene. Good work!

Hi Paul
Yes the lighting is excellent. The rabbit tracks lead our eye into this shot as with another recent posting of yours. You have nice texture in the snow. Well done. Out of smileys. Later

Hello Paul,
This is a brilliant post, one that I consider to be probably your best post. I don' think you could do anything to have made this a better photograph, the lighting, contrasts, sharpness, clarity and framing are all top grade. The footprints are the prime features of this photo, aside from the powder snow and rich sky. You really did create an inspiring piece here, so my congratulations to you! Happy New Year mate, enjoy 2008.

hello Paul,
a perfect composition with wonderful light, your polarizing filter doing a good job to give us that blue. The rabbit prints are a fantastic bonus. Quite special.

All of your tree pictures are wonderful!! I don't have a polarizer and in fact, was told they don't make them for my camera :( If I face the sun then my sky is blown out. I'll keep studying yours though and hopefully learn improvements. TFS and Happy New Year.

One of my favorites indeed Paul..
Looks like the weather on the East Coast of Vancouver Island was much more forgiving then the weather on the West!
Beautiful blue skies which make these snow covered trees stand out soooo well. This outing looks like it might have been a heap more interesting then the one to the coast :-(
Maybe I should invest in a pair of snow shoes eh Pauly?
(and a sled for Rolling Thunder) hahahahahaha
All the best Paul,
- Dan

marvelous soft colors, the light is soft and perfect too. The little details are visible and we can enjoy the trees, transformed in sculpture by the snow. here, in my hometown, the ice produce another especie of dramma.
