Photographer's Note
At Mt Washington you can cross country ski or snow shoe on the trails just west of Raven Lodge. I found that someone beat me to this location as you can see from the snow shoe tracks on the left.
As always one of the most challenging aspects for all photographers is timing. The lighting here was challenging because of sky highlights offsetting the details in the snow in the foreground. This place is a winter wonder land. Hope you like this capture!

Beautiful combination of light and shade, emphasizing the texture of the snow. Is it possible that the image is slightly tilted to the left? The trees seem to lean all to the left, but it could be because of the direction of the prevailing winds. I wish we had this much snow on this side of the Rockies.

Paul, ce bleu omniprésent est superbe. J'aime le rendu de la neige encore vierge de toute trace. Le ciel, bleu aussi participe à la beauté de l'ensemble.

Hi Paul,
I like it but as you alude, may be on the dark side. Is this the kind of shot that might have benefited from a Grad filter to hold back some of the upper brightness while drawing more detail from th foreground - but then what do I know - just thinking out loud. TFS. Gerald

Ah yes, the return to the island...
I see you headed straight back to Mt. Washington- I really cannot blame you Paul! Beautiful scenery indeed as is obvious with all the attention here on TE!
However, I'm nto as impressed with this shot as I am the others. Mainly because this one seems to be substatially darker then the previous posts. The image may be slightly tilited but it's really hard to say as the main tree seems perfectly vertical, yet the horizon seems slightly tilted (common when on a mountain though I guess....)
Not a bad shot Paul, BUT- I think it could be a better in terms of levels.
All the best buddy,
- Dan

Hi Paul,
A very beautiful image you shot here, nice balance of light and shade but as I am not a fan of blue snow i played with the white balance to obtain something more natural to me. I hope you don't mind the workshop on your image.

Hello Paul,
I agree with Dan that this is not as dazzling as your previous shots of Mt. Washington, but this being said I still consider it a delightful scene. A little brightness would benefit, but the darkness also seems to make the snow look a little bit more shapely and shadowy. It would look good to have the top of the pine included but I am unaware of how tall it is and hence it would be useless to have more sky and less snow just to allow the view of the spindly top. I like the feature of the branch rising from the ground. The blue cast is soothing and appealing to the eye. Well done.

You are getting up way too early for someone on vacation! This is a wonderful winter shot. I like the low angle of the sun, which allows us to see all of the contours of the land. Nice work!

Hello Paul,
I agrre with you about the right timing: And teh great North doesn't seem to shake you at all.
Once again you created a great landscape picture and because we have had no snow in ıstanbul during the past two years, I am really longing it in ortder to take pictures.

Hello Paul,
A truly beautiful view of a winter wonderland. The depth of the snow can be seen by the tracks. I would have expected snow shoes or skis not to cut so deeply into the snow, but I've never engage in cross country skiing. I feel the vicarious pleasure of seeing the place in person.
Warm regards,

Hello Paul,
As I saw you are also enjoying snow photos and hiking, whatever is the way.
As you said the timing is very important as the point of view. On this photo, there are the 2. Moreover, the final tuning of the lightning and the contrast works well and it is sometimes very difficult on this kind of photo against the sun.
Your photo is an invitation to walk in all this light and thick snow.
Yves.

Hello paul:
Amazing picture, I like the texture of the snow. I born in the Golf of Mexico, as you know this place is hot and humed, so for me the snow is a magic thing and this places is amazing.
I pick this because the sunset is wonderful the pine here too, will be nice see the top of this tree, however I know not always is able to took a perfect pic, because maybe was something to disturb the picture.
This pictures is magic, I love the background and the minimalism.
Beautiful Paul
