Photographer's Note

Queen Elizabeth II once called Goderich "the prettiest little town in Canada." My husband and I were doubtful, since we already had a town picked out for that honour, but we were plesantly surprised to discover this unique, indeed very pretty and not little seeming town when we drove there to check it out this summer. Goderich has enormously wide streets, grand old mansion-like homes, and a high bluff along the shore of Lake Huron which give the whole place the impression of great size. The silo in the picture belongs to Sifto Canada Inc. The company operates a salt mine beneath Goderich's harbour. It extends 5 kilometers beneath Lake Huron and is apparently the largest salt mine in the world
