Photographer's Note

Martine is the title character in a series of books for children written in French by Gilbert Delahaye and illustrated by Marcel Marlier. The setting, characters and stories in the books belong to an unreal planet where life is perfect, people are extremely beautiful, everything is easy and fun (e.g. looking after babies, cooking, farming, washing the dishes and sewing). Almost everybody I know grew up reading these books, probably comparing their miserable lives with Martine's immaculately perfect life depicted in the illustrations. As I grew older, I began to find those incredibly beautiful illustrations a bit disturbing as they somehow have an undertone of pedophilia.

Martine series has always been made fun of (however much we used to love them as children) by adults who invent new titles like Martine is getting divorced, Martine is going to Mekke for pilgrimage, Martine is at the mental asylum and so on. )))

Tatil deyince aklima gelen ilk sey Aysegul serisindeki tatildir, hani eve geri donduklerinde iki kardesin bir deniz kabugunu kulaklarina dayamis, yerde oturduklari resimle biten.
