Photographer's Note

In Turkey, there has been a rivalry between two football clubs, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, for ages. The fans of each team, I mean most of them, literally hate each other. Personally, I'm not interested in football and can never understand why they take it so seriously. I've even read Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch to have an idea about what it is like to be a devoted fan of a team and found it rather childish (not the book...the book was hilarious, but the fanship was terribly boring). Maybe it's because I didn't grow up in a house where men were football fans and because I have never had a male friend interested in football. (Aren't I lucky? ;))

When I was in Mardin, some kids were wearing FB uniforms and some GS. The ones wearing GS were teasing the others, saying that they should take that uniform off as GS would certainly be the champion. These boys I met at a restaurant in Midyat forgot their quarrel when they saw me and wanted to pose for me with the donkey. (By the way, this poor, cute donkey was like a toy. He was so quiet and meek, allowing everyone to touch him without the slightest complaint.) I took lots of photos with the kids and the donkey, but this one I liked most, with two former "enemies" becoming friends in a second.

I usually don't post such photos, but I know FB fans are quite unhappy now, so this might cheer them up a little bit. As for GS fans, they are already walking around boasting that the lion has devoured the tamer. ))))

dediğin gbibi senden gцrmeye alışık olmadığımız bir kare.. ama зocukların ifadesi ve цzellikle oyuncağa benzeyen eşeğe bayıldım. цn tarafın netliği, ve arka tarafın bulanıklaığı ile kadraj yerleşimi зok hoş.. Sen, ben, ReLa, ucumuz komsu olmusuz sekerler Turkiye galerisinde... Uc silahsorler mi desem, uc guzeller mi desem... Kararsiz mi kalsam...
Fus valla FB-GS iliskisi anlatilmaz, yasanir. FB-GS maclari dunyanin en cok ilgi goren derbilerinin basinda geliyor. Bu da benden dip not olsun.
Fotografta eseginden tut da cocuklara kadar her bir karakterin yuzu ayri bir fotograf...

In Turkey you have FB and GS, on TE we have the reds and the yellows ;-)))
Nice trio smilingly united around the donkey, funnily I like the left guy most with the red and yellow colors, which club is this ?

The trio looks great with those vivid colours... And your story, so well told, adds value to the shot as we understand it better... Poor baby donkey, he does not seemed very stable on his legs with those boys leaning on him !
A cute one, why not for once ?

As for football in Turkey : I only know one thing, one of my dog friends who protects me fiercely when walking in the nature is black and white ; since people know that he is not a "Dutch" or Belgian dog (same colours as the cows from there) but rather a "Besiktasli kцpek", they treat him with more respect and he is even becoming popular !

Dediler ki Erzurum'da insanlar fotoğraflarının зekilmesinden зok hoşlanırlarmış, sanırım burada da цyle. Doğuda fotoğraf зekmek daha kolay:) Ama ben yine de kimselere bцyle poz verdiremedim. Bol bol manzara зektim yine:p. GS-FB rekabeti bir yana ben hiз bu kadar sevimli ve beyaz bir sıpa gцrmemiştim daha цnce. Зocuklar da pek bir afacan, artisitk poz vermişler:) eline sağlık, зok sevimli bir fotoğraf olmuş.
