Photographer's Note
Sadly, the ancient town of Hasankeyf dating back 12,000 years has been submerged by the Ilisu Dam since this was taken and the water level earlier this year was 1/2 way up the bg cliffs and rising. These are Turkish style teahouses taking advantage of the cool river breezes on a hot summers' day. You can see a short documentary here. New Hasankeyf looks rather bland and soul-less. Finally feeling a little better.

Hello Chris,
Glad to see a new post from you. A beautiful view across the water towards the cliffs, the contrast with the small floating houses is excellent, especially in this bright sunlight, which you managed well.

Bonjour Chris,
La scène est impressionnante. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des maisons de thé et de la falaise en arrière-plan. La qualité de la lumière embellit les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Long time ago that you post a picture.
A lovely two part image with the rocks in background.

Hello Chris,
I didn't know you were ill. I must have missed a message or some pictures here. I wondered where you had been. It's not a good time to travel somewhere. Good that you're feeling a little better now. Hopefully a speedy and complete recovery.
So this picture was taken before the dam was finished.
Beautiful landscape with the river near the steep cliffs. The tea houses look rudimentary but fulfill their purpose. Relaxing with a good tea and probably in nice Turkish company while enjoying the special landscape and being able to flee from the heat for a while.
Perfect clear and sharp picture with a good contrast between the sunlit parts and the spots in the shade.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Chris,
I am happy to see you back. I thought you had just left the site like so many others, but now I see from Malgo's comments that you have been ill. I am sorry to hear that but I hope you are fully recovered.
This is a spectacular view seen from a good angle, and also a good photo in the WS. I am really sad that I never came to this place, and now it's too late - for Hasankeyf and for me.
Best regards,
Gert

Chris, these floating teahouses are moored to the shore with ropes. They offer snacks and drinks to the visitors. It s a pity the dam has submerged that place. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello Chris, I am sorry to read that you have been ill; I hope that you are well on the way to a full recovery.
How sad that the ancient town is lost as it has become submerged to make way for a dam. That is why TE is a useful website, we see and learn things that we might not see anywhere else.
I have never seen tea-hoses like this before; I guess that they no longer exist at this site.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Chris, I got a message from you on FB, I am glad that you have recovered from a bad illness and post here again.
It is a very sad thing, that the remnants of the ancient culture are under water. Lovely view of these teahouses on water.
Best regrads Malgo

Hello Chris,
Good to see you posting again.
From your last words, I presume you have not been well!
This is an interesting place, where I would imagine, you have to paddle to the tea houses!
Though this is a fine shot, slightly underexposed, I think your w/s is excellent. It clearly shows the square windows in the cliff face and the boards, for access to the tea house.
Keep safe,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris,
by feeling off, you mean that you were discouraged to share your photos here?
Either way I am glad you are back.
I am discouraged too but ironically I started to post more. May be anticipating that this website may shut down soon I wanted to push through as many photos I can in the short time left :)
Quite an interesting spot, pity that it was lost, I suppose this is why taking plenty of photos is useful and shows a history now.
Excellent work,
M

Hello Chris,
What a lovely way to sip one's tea and play backgammon! It's a shame that Hasankeyf had to be sacrificed for modern conveniences.
Regards,
MT
