Photographer's Note
Another view of the old Bagnayr Monastery just outside the ancient Armenian capital of Ani, a few km to the west. There is a thrasher at left, some hay for cattle under the blue tarpaulin, and some adobe mud bricks at right for keeping the cattle sheltered from the wind during the long, bitter winters in these elevated parts (1,340 m -1,768 m). Some of the adobe bricks were made from dried cow manure, and stacked in neat rows ready to build protective walls. The church dates from 989 AD.
This particular ruined building in the complex is all that remains of the Surp Astuacacin Church. There is some legible Armenian text on the bricks at left. More information and photos here:

Hello Chris,
Some details tell us these are the remains of an Armenian religious building. What makes the photo interesting are the signs of present times' agricultural poverty in the foreground. It's a good document of a culture that is more or less forgotten in this area. I like the fine colours and good sharpness and clarity.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Chris, new pic from this monastery, very interesting because far by the usual touristic trips, some ruins remains, enough to recognize the style,it's a pity that it's so abandoned. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Chris,
Unfortunately, not much remains of this old Armenian church.
Nice location in the green steppes.
Apparently it didn't bother anyone to put quite a bit of crap in front of this historic landmark.
I love the brightness and the strong colours of this photo.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Chris
Interesting post showing the remains of the Armenian culture in the region. The blue tarpaulin is a reminder of the present times but also adds splashes of vibrant colour to the ruins.
Best wishes

Hi Chris,
very attractive elements are left from the temple. The colors are stunning. A bit pity that they have left there these blue covers but I suppose this is what it was.
Very well captured,

Hello Chris,
I wonder why cattle and manure are kept in the ruins of a church, would it have anything to do with that tolerant religion of the current occupiers of the land?
Regards,
MT
