Photographer's Note
An interior view of the Armenian Cathedral of the Holy Cross, on Akdamar Island (Aghtamar) in Lake Van, located in south eastern Turkey. There is some writing on the wall at right and it superficially resembles Thai, Burmese or Sri Lankan Script. I cannot read it. It dates from 921 AD.

Hello Chris,
As far as I remember this church was closed for renovations when I visited Akdamar in 1974. The paintings are very nice so it was a pity I didn't see them. The writing I can find looks very much like Armenian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_alphabet).
Regards,
Gert

Bonjour Chris,
La croix attire le regard. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des fresques. La lumière environnante met en valeur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Hi Chris
Another good Armenian one from the Van area with different frescoes to we are used to seeing.
Our new premier is already speeding up easing of restrictions - will that be a disaster?
cheers

Hello Chris,
The frescoes are very sharply photographed, with a good sense of depth, created by the darker colours shown by the paintings on the right.
The style is very distinctive!
I think those eyes might strike fear or obedience into the hearts of worshippers!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris,
Amazing to realize the old Byzantine past of this area. I wonder how the presence of Europe would look like if the Ottoman Empire didn't take over this peninsula.
Great reportage from less frequently visited area of Turkey,
