Photographer's Note

The main entrance to the fortified ruins of Ani, the former Armenian capital destroyed by an earthquake in 1319 AD. The Armenian border is only a couple of km away across the river, but the border is closed and relations between Turkey and Armenia remain very frosty. The horse drawn hay-rake must be going inside to remove the weeds and long grass.
