Photographer's Note
This is almost as far east in Turkey as you can go. Beyond the bg mountains is Iran. Apparently the Iranian border guards are trigger happy on occasion and shoot at any one that even looks like they might be trying to cross over. Not so much at this particular spot but along the border road linking this area to Van City to the south. At left is the Ishak Pasa Palace dating from 1784. It offers a nice view over the provincial town of Doğubayazıt. At right is the Ahmed-iHani Türbesi / tomb, mosque & museum. A closer view here:

Bonsoir Chris,
La route sinueuse donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails du palais Ishak Pasa. La lumière met en valeur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

Hello Chris. Living in Turkey for some time you were able to visit amazing places, away of usual tourist places. Fantastic picture, I would love to see it ,too. Impressive fortress in the rock, and two mosques. People on the road are so tiny. Gorgeous landscape. Lake Van is my dream that probably will not be fulfilled.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Neighbour today
A good photo of this interesting scene with no border guards in sight.
Great with the fortifications as well as the mosque and museum. They did like forts above transport routes in old Turkey.
cheers

Hello Chris,
I passed this way a few times on my way to or from Iran, but unfortunately only saw the palace from a distance. It is a fascinating area and these ruins create an atmosphere reminding me of a phantasy movie. From this vantage point the road winds very nicely through the foreground. The pleasant light produced very nicely mild colours.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Chris,
The mountains look amazing with a great mix of steep rock cliffs and more gently sloping green areas. The orange part near the centre stands out well too. The palace and the road are well included in the foreground.

Hello Chris,
I was there in 1984. But I cannot remember the mosque on the right. Nor a parking with buses or other visitors.
For me one of the most evocative places in Turkey with an amazingly beautiful environment.
You searched for an ideal viewpoint to present the entire wonderful scenery.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Chris,
This looks like a wild area of the country. You have used the pathways well to guide us towards the palace.
I thought it was quite isolated, at first, but on closer inspection, can see other buildings down the road. (The link shows the beauty of the mosque, whilst yours clearly shows its situation.)
It looks as if there have been castle walls built into the cliff side. Are these accessible or just ruins?
It sounds as if you were safer to stay away from the border with Iran!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris,
beautiful view! The road makes such a nice curve in the foreground. The mosque contributes a blue dome, and there is a fortress there as well. Mountains very decorative. Very well captured in spite of challenging light conditions,

Hello Chris
Another great landscape from eastern Turkey. THe bending road, the fortress, the mosques...human elements in this natural environment...make the shot even more impressive imho.

Pozdrav.
Zelim vam sve najbolje.
Paja.

Hello Chris,
Interesting view. The tomb seems to be better preserved than the mosque on the left.
