While I was in the Orkneys there were several beautifully fine days including the day spent exploring the West Mainland with landscapes like that in this photo.
Not all was idyllic - along a little farther were the remains of someone's dreams - a waterside ruin. See the workshop for that one.

Great shot of a beautiful place on a brill day with great reflection and it's hard to mistake a Scottish landscape for anything else - especially with a castle or a ruin as a point of interest. So much depth to this scenic spot, Excellent and tfs

Hello Ian,
The architecture is not great, but the buildings are beautifully situated on the green slope and nicely reflected. The small fields have created a fine pattern. Despite some clouds you had a very good light. The ruins in the WS look far too recent to be from the Viking times. ;-)

Hi Ian,
your photos from Scotland make me feel embarrassed. It is just I lived in Ireland for five years and I travelled a lot there. So going to Scotland is not that exciting while it would require a lot of driving, it is not cheap and very risky weather wise.
But your photos are very encouraging for sure.
This is a beautiful spot and you had a fantastic light there. I like very much the reflection.

The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the fields and of the buildings. The quality of the light beautifies the colors. Have a nice day.

A charming view of the small village on the gently sloping green hills. The bit of water looks nice as well and adds some fine reflections.

A nice reflection in the water & I like the wide angled panoramic crop. Good sharpness and the horseshoe shaped arrangement of cottages on the far shore adds interest. Tfs!
